Meet Debra Chance of Chance Chiropractic Center in Lafayette and Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Chance.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started chiropractic school in Atlanta, GA after searching for treatments to help me with my chronic pain and headaches. Being a functioning person with pain was difficult for me, and I didn’t know that natural medicine was my solution. Chiropractic philosophy focuses on the idea that your brain communicates with your body via the spinal nervous system. It sends out and receives messages, but if there is a dysfunction in your system, an injury or repetitive stress, it can affect this communication and cause pain and other symptoms.

About halfway through school, I became interested in a specialized, advanced form of chiropractic care called Directional Non-Force Technique®. DNFT® helped my problems more effectively than the traditional chiropractic I was learning in school, and my patients seemed to respond better, too. I decided to focus on that type of chiropractic, and my professional practice has utilized this protocol exclusively. The differences are the specific analyses and treatment, involving correcting soft tissues, extremities, cranial bones and other very critical areas that most schools overlook. I’m so glad I’ve decided to go that route because my practice is almost all cash-based. I am not on any insurance lists, so people pay my services out of pocket. All my business comes through referrals – 100% of it. That’s because I get results, and as an added benefit, I get to watch patients get their lives back.

People don’t realize that it is difficult to function at your optimal levels when you have nerve impingement, spinal misalignments, or just pain. For the last 20 years, my life, my job, my career has been to help people reach their goals of being pain-free and be the best they can be.

My education is also on-going: I am certified in acupuncture, and I utilize functional medicine to help people meet their nutritional and supplemental needs, using blood, saliva, or other tests as a guide.

I serve my patients in two areas of Colorado – Lafayette, and Lakewood. Not many people do this kind of chiropractic, and the mix of acupuncture and functional medicine means that I’m a practitioner that people will drive out of their way to see. I am most grateful for that.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path to get where I am and where I am going has the normal self-owned business struggles as many do: Taxes insurance and license fees gobble up a lot of profit. It started slowly, but I have built up a reputation now and business comes to me without effort. it helps that I love what I do and love the people I get to work with.

Please tell us about Chance Chiropractic Center.
I see a lot of patients that have tried all kinds of treatments, with limited or no improvement. Others are afraid of chiropractic adjustments that are too forceful, or general “cracking”. I do none of that. The system I use is very gentle and I get about a 70-100% success rate on improvement within the first three adjustments. I don’t do long term contracts, or try to sell you on a whole year worth of treatments, before the process even begins. My goal is to figure out if your symptom is a chiropractic issue, or another issue, and treat you accordingly. If it’s beyond my scope, I refer out to another practitioner or an MRI. Patients love that I’m not a salesperson, I am a healer here to help you with your needs.

We are a family-owned business: My husband, Scott, runs the office and manages the business. Our 15-year-old Australian Shepherd, Darby, is the greeter. We’ve been in the same location for 16 years in Lafayette, 19+ years in Boulder County and 17+ years in Jefferson County.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved going to the beach as a kid. The smell of the saltwater, the sun, the ice cream, playing with my friends.
