Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Wright.
Dennis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Colorado native, and currently live and work in Denver. My studio is at Artuvus Studios in Denver. I started my college career at Bethany College in Kansas where I was recruited for football and decided to move on after my freshman year. I came back to Denver and attended the Colorado Institute of Art in 1987. After graduating I began my career in Marketing and Advertising as a Graphic Designer and Creative Director. I worked in Denver for nearly thirty in years partnering in local advertising agencies and have worked as a creative director and brand architect for a few prominent corporations headquartered in Denver.
I began painting full time in 2013 at my first studio space in RiNo. I have been commissioned by many art collectors in Denver and around the country. I do performance art for many non-profits and donate my art and proceeds to those groups. I have had exhibitions at Artwork Network, 8th Avenue Gallery, 40 West Arts District, Performance art at RAW Denver, the Jett Hotel, Elohim Barah Gallery, Tru Show-case Denver, Live Performance Art Confluence Denver, Live Performance Art Converge Denver and the Denver Art Museum to name a few. I am also the founder of Visceral Marketing Communications.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. I have been fortunate enough to have had fairly consistent sales. Some of the struggles have been managing time to create while trying to be consistent in marketing efforts. I have only done a few gallery shows and need to do more but finding the time and right galleries have been challenging.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I am an accomplished illustrator and contemporary abstract artist. I am available for commissions and have an inventory of paintings and illustrations available for purchase. I work closely with interior designers and homeowners to create paintings that complement their tastes and lifestyles. My experience in commercial design has afforded me expertise in design and color principles. I have done everything from high-end technical drawings and illustrations in airbrush, pen and ink and graphite, to large abstract oil paintings and murals.
I take pride in and am proud of working with a handful of non-profits and paint live at their silent auctions and events. The art that is created at those events is donated for their charities. I am grateful that I get to create art for a living and believe in sharing that blessing to support great causes and charities.
My paintings illuminate color from a foundational and textural understanding. I am known for doing large works that are unique in style, color and texture.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to growing and evolving my art. I plan on doing more gallery shows and plan on seeking representation in other cities.
