Meet Desirae Price of AlanaLynn_beauty in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desirae Price.

Desirae, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been a Cosmetologist for four years now. After working in customer service as a waitress for about six years, I realized that I wanted a more stable career. I always knew I enjoyed all things beauty but most of all the feeling of making other people happy. I started out doing Nails and Blowouts which was not where I pictured I’d start but I gained so much experience, knowledge and met great people.

In my first, Full-Service Salon was where I really learned a lot. I was the only Color Specialist there and was able to really appreciate and get better at my craft. About two years after graduating and beginning to build a loyal clientele I had my daughter. I became a stay at home mom for about ten months because she is my number one priority and having such a great career with such flexibility allowed me to picked back up where I started.

Unfortunately, a few months after going back to work, my salon went under new management and went out of business. That’s when I decided to learn something new and got trained in eyelash extensions. I now work doing eyelash extensions and hair and its so nice to truly love what I do. I am continuing to rebuild my clientele in hair and maintain my eyelash clients with hopes to be working fully independently by the end of the year!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Things haven’t always been easy. Beauty school is definitely harder than it looks. We get stereotyped as if we took the easy way out but it is far from easy. Although there were some bumps along the way I learned so much and was provided everything I needed to be successful. I had amazing learning leaders and made life long connections and friendships. When I had my daughter, I suffered from severe postpartum depression and anxiety so working through that was very challenging because I’d never experienced anything like it while becoming a mother for the first time it was a overwhelming.

My daughter definitely keeps me going through my good and bad days; she is the one constant that lets me know that I have a purpose. Getting back into the groove of things after just being a mom for a while really was good for me. I gained my confidence back and was able to do more things that I love other than being a mom which is very important. Finding balance in it all has been my biggest obstacle to overcome, still working on that. No matter how hard things get, I just want to be better every day so I can be the best role model!

Please tell us about AlanaLynn_beauty.
I named my business AlanaLynn Beauty, which is my middle name and my daughters/was my grandpas middle name combined. I specialize in Hair Color which is my favorite thing to do. I work a lot with the Balayage Technique. I also work a lot with Hair and Eyelash Extensions. I am most proud of despite the bumps in the road and having to slow down to focus on being a mom, my business is back and building to be stronger than ever.

The major thing that sets me apart is that I make sure that I provide a unique and satisfying experience for all of my clients. Another thing is there is no other personality like mine and I use that to my advantage to not only provide services but develop meaningful relationships because if you can’t trust your hairstylist who can you trust.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory for childhood was definitely all of the family get-togethers we had. Holidays were the best so much love and of course the food. My cousins and I were always having fun together, riding bikes around the neighborhood all day until it got dark during the summer. Being able to spend time with my grandparents was the cherry on top for sure.
