Meet Dessa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dessa.

Dessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a self-taught artist during my childhood. I had always fantasized about being a female version of Picasso. During high school, I had signed up for AP Art classes and mixed media in graphic design and typography. During my senior yr. of high school, I had found out I was adopted which changed my life. I moved back to the Philippines so I could get in touch with my roots. Around 2008 I went to The Art Institute of Houston, where I met like-minded & creative individuals and really soaked up the art school experience.

I started freelancing then set up my personal branding shortly after. Dessa Designs was born. I specialize in brand identity and thoughtful & colorful design for companies and clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
What’s a journey without various types of lemons and such? Life has never been a smooth road. Enduring discrimination as an Asian American & a woman, it’s taught me life lessons that no company can teach in our actual reality.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
Dessa Designs is a woman-owned design hub. As the sole proprietor, I specialize in commissioned paintings, brand identities, such as logos, website design and more. I consult with companies to go a unique route with their branding. Diversity, compassion and creativity are the key ingredients to building a successful brand.

I really enjoy incorporating graphic design to my paintings. I love mixing organic and geometric elements to an art piece.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have been more active with graphic design organizations such as AIGA.
