Meet Devon Johanningmeier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Johanningmeier.

Devon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In the middle of my Junior year of High School, My mom, with just over two years of sobriety at the time, was offered a position as a house manager at Mile High Sober Living. After living away from my mom for a while, we both knew that being apart from each other was not going to happen. My mom had agreed to take the job, under the condition that I come with her (and also our cat.) Brice Hancock, the owner of Mile High was kind enough to allow this. Today, my mom is the residential director at Mile High, and in just a few weeks, I will have four years of sobriety. At the end of this month, I will be moving out of Mile High and headed to L.A to attend school for music.

Has it been a smooth road?
The last four years of my life have been one huge blessing. Growing up, there seemed to be constant chaos, none of which I felt I could control, Both of my parents had struggled with drug addiction. Both short-tempered and emotional, and overall not easy to predict. In 2012, my mom quit drinking after a road trip with me that resulted in her second D.U.I. After her D.U.I she began using opiates more frequently and eventually began using heroin. in 2015, My Uncle Ryan Johanningmeier died of an overdose. The death of my uncle, someone who my mom was incredibly close with, was a big part of my mom’s choice to get sober. A few days before my freshman year of high school, my mom went to rehab.

At this point, hope was a much more tangible concept, I had lived a lot of my childhood in fear, and I had finally started to understand just a little bit, that I had control over how I felt, and where I went in life. Throughout those four years, my fathers’ drug addiction worsened. He had been a pretty successful photographer, shooting cars for different magazines. He eventually stopped working all together and quickly lost the majority of his belongings and his apartment. Today, he is still using, homeless and in and out of jail. Anytime I am asked to speak about my life, I am reminded how incredibly lucky I am to have such a supportive family, and in general, such incredible people around me.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your work– tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Soon, I will be in L.A, living and breathing music. I have never been able to see myself going into anything other than music as a career and I am so excited to continue the journey. Right now, I have music on Soundcloud and am working on music for release on larger platforms. My family and friends have been so wonderful in supporting me in music, and I am so lucky to have that. I am in love with writing and experimenting with new sounds and ideas and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
