Today we’d like to introduce you to Dion Studinski.
Dion, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Minnesota with a German Shepherd and have always had a knack for understanding dogs. When two well-known local dog trainers couldn’t produce the results I wanted with my working dog, I connected with the president of the High Plains Schutzhund Club in Elizabeth, CO, a training club specializing in the German dog sport known as Schutzhund. I was enamored with their philosophy, their style of training and, most importantly, their results. I currently volunteer as an assistant to the club and am always honing my abilities.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, It has been a pretty smooth road… I’ve been very fortunate. My clients are dedicated to improving the lives of their dogs, so it makes my job even more rewarding.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
We train all breeds of dogs in on and off-leash obedience, from beginner to competition level. We do a lot of behavior problem solving and rehabilitation work for aggressive dogs. We also offer personal protection training for select working breed dogs. We are easily most well-known for our ability to reduce or eliminate aggressive or reactive behavior. What set’s us apart is our success rate. We are able to help many dogs that other trainers are simply unable or unwilling to train.
What were you like growing up?
Ha! I grew up on a lake in northern Minnesota, just outside the small mining town of Chisholm. The people there work hard. The winters are cold and the summers are short. I played a little hockey growing up but spent most of my time in the woods. It’s where my heart is. I feel most comfortable with an ax in my hand and the freedom to explore a wilderness that is almost untouched.
