Meet Dionne Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionne Taylor.

Dionne, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hello, my name is DD aka DDSwag, graduated from CU Boulder this past spring, used to run track and field here at the University of Colorado, but was released from the team for substance abuse. My name DDSwag came from my middle school friends who would always call me that, then eventually a lot of people started calling me DD. What got me into making music was one of my boys from Low Hanging Fruit got me into making music my freshman year of college. We would record in the closet for fun and s***, now the music group LHFmob doing shows and have opened up for artists like G Herbo, YBN Nahmir, GZA, etc and have even sold out one of our own shows. We have parted ways now, but much respect to what they doing out here.

My influences that made me love rap/hip-hop so much to the point where I wanted to pursue making music myself are Common, Dave East, G Herbo, Logic, Lil Wayne, etc. Really any rapper who keeps it real as cliche as it sounds. Any artist that dealt with their struggles and music was their outlet for amazing art to come out of a bad situation gets my love. Life too real for the fake s***.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would like to say it has been a smooth road, but the reality is absolutely not. It’s already hard enough as an emerging artist to have people actually listen to you’re music. I feel my last project “Life Keep Moving” released April 2019 was one of the better projects released in the Denver Metro Area as there is a wave of rappers all sounding the same and using the same beats.

Since that is the trend everyone gravitates towards it, my music is more timeless as it still would go hard many years down the road because I don’t follow trends, therefore I’m not getting that much attention out here. By far the hardest part of making music is making quality music and people not giving you a chance by not listening or tuning in and most artists feel that struggle.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Wouldn’t say I’m a business I’m just a guy who makes good REAL music for people going through everyday life.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Definitely wouldn’t have “clout chased” in the beginning because over time you realize 1000 true fans are much more important than social media follower account numbers.
