Meet Donnell Goss of 9 Vision Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnell Goss.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The journey has been long, with a lot of details, so many that it would fill a book.

In a world that is ever growing, so cutthroat and fast pace. Here in Denver, there’s growth all around! So, what’s an “average” single father to do? How are we going to survive in this rat race called DENVER? Where do WE fit in? Where and when do I get my “slice of life”…my “slice of pie? My opportunity?”. Those are the questions I started to ask myself ten years ago. I’ve worked 9-5 jobs ever since I was 14. From serving at restaurants, working in sales, real estate, even dog grooming! Yet nothing satisfied that….itch! That thing that makes you get out of bed and do something with your life!

I always felt I had talents in very specific areas and filming and editing were a few of them. Being creative in what I do is what I strive for, specifically in the workspace. From internships, when I was 19 to student films and various creative projects over the years, I was able to tap into that JUICE! “The Juice” is when you found that thing that you can’t stop thinking about, you sleep, eat, breathe that one thing! And that’s when 9 Vision Studios was born.

As any single dad would, I saw my situation and realized I needed to make life better for my daughter. She needs to see that I am the example of a true entrepreneur who has a great work ethic. She has truly been the driving force behind my success.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not smooth! In my industry, the start up cost is the most brutal, especially if you are tight on money. I’d say getting my camera kit established to the point where I felt confident in shoots was very challenging at times.

Along with pricing, knowing your worth…your time, I found that it can be very challenging to talk about monetary transactions to clients, especially when you are the business entity.

Please tell us about 9 Vision Studios.
I specialize in real estate and small business social media promos. I was a licensed Realtor a few years ago and I couldn’t fully leave the industry. So, now I found my place in real estate with videos for Realtors who want to make more of a lasting impression with their audience.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would spend more time figuring out the inner workings of my business. I am an artist first so, the nitty gritty things you have to do as a business owner were not 2nd nature to me in the beginning so, slowing down and learning marketing, business language and tactics are things I’d focus on in the beginning.
