Meet Dr. Matt Pennetti of Prime Chiropractic in Greenwood Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Matt Pennetti.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a senior in college, playing basketball. Early in the school year, I began dealing with debilitating headaches. To the point where I couldn’t attend preseason workouts, or class because the pain was so bad. All I could do was lay down in a dark room, with no light or sound and hope to fall asleep. The pain refused to leave until I fell asleep. It was miserable. I went to an MD who diagnosed me with Cluster Headaches. The aka for this specific type of headache is “Suicide Headaches.” Unfortunately, there really isn’t much in the way of relief for the pain. Instead, the treatments of choice are migraine medications, oxygen tanks, massage, or Excedrin. None of those options worked for me. The only thing that helped was Morphine injections. And because of the addictive nature of the substance, you’re only allowed three injections. Needless to say, I used those up very quickly! With no options and very little hope left, I decided to take a friend’s advice and go see a Neuro-Structural Chiropractor. I’d been to Traditional Chiropractors in the past, and had great success, but had seen very little change with my cluster headaches. However, once I began working with this chiropractor, I immediately noticed a decrease in my headaches. It was a surreal experience. The headaches began to decrease in severity and frequency. My life changed almost overnight. Because of the amazing change, I finished out my business degree and shortly after enrolled again to fulfill my prerequisites for chiropractic school. I wanted to go back to school to help people like me. And here we are today!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In some ways, yes. In others no. Because of my life-changing experience early on, I have never lacked motivation and persistence in helping more people like myself. Without that, I think this journey would have been much more challenging. Even with my conviction, chiropractic still has its challenges. I think the hardest thing for me has been overcoming the stigma and assumptions that go along with chiropractic. Many people believe chiropractic is a treatment for neck pain and back pain. Which may be true for Traditional Chiropractic, it most certainly is not the case for Neuro-Structural Chiropractic. So, this takes a lot of teaching and communication around what we actually do.

Prime Chiropractic – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My wife Lauren, and I own Prime Chiropractic. This is the first Neuro-Structural Chiropractic office in the South Denver Metro Area.

Traditional Chiropractors focus on short-term pain relief and increasing ranges of motion. Neuro-Structural Chiropractors focus on core problems in the spine and nervous system that may contribute to pain, and may also contribute to things that you’re not necessarily aware of.

Most people are familiar with Traditional Chiropractors creating loud “popping” and “cracking” noises. You won’t hear these in our office. The reason is that we don’t need to use a lot of force to make a change in the nervous system. We just need to be very specific. So, we utilize specialized tools that allow us to make significant corrections with minor input.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Lauren and I originally started a practice in San Diego. We lived and worked there for 4-years. Ultimately, we decided to move to Denver in order to raise a family. But moving here was no small task. We had to sell our successful San Diego practice, move to Denver, and go through the process of creating a brand new office here. It was a major undertaking. But now that we are officially 1-year in and the practice is thriving, I’d have to say this is my proudest career moment so far.
