Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Gillem and Jeffery Schmidt.

Chuck and Jeffery, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We founded Down to Earth Landscaping because we like seeing hard work pay off.

Founders and best friends, Chuck and Jeff, started Down to Earth Landscaping in 2012. What started as a side hustle quickly evolved into a full-time business that is a community favorite in the Denver Metro Area.

Down to Earth blends passion with practicality. Chuck and Jeff are committed to practicing the same values in their friendship and in the field:

Curiosity, consistency, and communication.

Always be learning. Always do your best. Be transparent and honest.

Down to Earth specializes in all facets of Colorado landscaping – Hardscapes, Softscapes, Planting, Retaining Walls, Fencing, Irrigation, and Maintenance.

Our team works hard so that you can rest easy. Your yard is an extension of your home and we take pride in every step of the process to deliver the quality you deserve.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being new, small business owners, we quickly learned how to learn from our mistakes and to make adjustments on the fly. Individually we are resilient and together that strong trait allowed us to stay humble and bounce back quickly. Our biggest challenges to date have been finding qualified, experienced team members and identifying our target market. We pride ourselves on our passion for the quality of service we provide equally to all of our customers. We are not simply looking to add employees, but team members that are eager to learn and grow with us. Over the past nine years, we have faced many challenges, but without those challenges, we wouldn’t be where we are today. With our network of loyal customers and outstanding partnerships among local distributors, we have been able to grow sustainably. The obstacles and challenges are unavoidable. How we are able to overcome the unavoidable is a piece of what sets us apart.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denver is an amazing city to be an entrepreneur! With the stunning Rocky Mountains, endless outdoor activities, and 300 days of sunshine people will always be attracted to the Mile High City – Keeping steady business right at our fingertips. This city is full of life and energy and that will continue to help us stay innovative and motivated. While most people love the distinctly different seasons of Colorado, it can be tough for people in our industry. You always have to be adjusting and improvising when it comes to dealing with the weather. We are usually able to work in the field for about 3 of the 4 seasons so this may be a bit of a strain for someone just starting out. There are some things that we deal are forced to deal with but are out of our control and weather is at the top of that list. If you have the entrepreneurial spirit in this industry then there will never be a down season.
