Today we’d like to introduce you to Eboni Boneé Coleman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eboni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I guess you could say I’ve always been someone with multiple hats, even as a child. From dance lessons to classical piano classes, I was always on the go and wanting to try new things and create new experiences for myself.
What I decided at a very young age was that whatever I genuinely decided to touch and put my energy towards, I would be good at… and that’s exactly what I did and continue to do on a regular basis. I’ve always been involved in the performing arts and specifically have a love for vocal music, dance, and theater. Attending Denver School of the Arts as a vocal major, as an adolescent, really heightened my love for those areas. Bearing that in mind and wanting to be well rounded, I wanted to also explore the business side of things. I wanted to make money with creating.
Even in my decision to transfer to East High School during that time, it put a stamp on my path and passions. While at The University of Northern Colorado, I was a Public Relations & Advertising Media major. Then came the media hat. I had found an area that was exciting, but also applicable to everything I wanted to do and I could apply my knowledge to act as an aid to that. I was on the University Program Council as the Marketing and Spring Concert Coordinator, and it was then I realized my nitch for live concerts, and event planning and logistics.
I also went and auditioned for American Idol Season 11, and made it to Hollywood during college, so that was very exciting as well. However, to bring things back home, all of those experiences shaped my entrepreneur mindset and let me know that as a young Black Woman, I could do this, bringing me to now. I feel like we are always told that we have to stay in one area and be good at this one thing. I don’t believe that, especially with the magicianship that comes from a Black Woman.
I’m an artist and model, while also having EB Pixs. A digital photography and small business media development company, catering to communities were starting a business is usually secondary in the family home. And also, Plāts, is an organic comfort food catering company/meal prep service/pop-up kitchen that supports non-conventional farming practices carrying an organic approach to serving you the right food . Everyday is another lesson and another step of growth. I’m still on the roller coaster.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha! Nope! Lol. I say that with love though. I definitely had to learn somethings the hard way, but I think that’s okay. Sometimes, that’s just how it has to be. I would also like to note that it’s okay to change your mind in entrepreneurship and start over, but be committed to that. Discipline and especially this year, intention has been key. Balancing work with life was also a challenge because I feel as an entrepreneur, your work can easily become your life because you’re wearing so many hats. I can honestly say for myself, especially as a Black Woman, I struggled with knowing that I can have love and a successful career.
For sometime, I felt like I had to give love up in order to stand the way I needed to stand, but I’ve realized both are possible and tangible with the right person. There are plenty off rough times! You have to roll with the punches and be patient with yourself. I have to always remind myself of that because I can be a perfectionist at times.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
EB Pixs. Specializes in photography and small business content media services. We are known for capturing candid, memorable moments. What I am most proud of as a company is how quickly we’ve been able to build. I started EB Pixs a year ago, wanting to really help clients capture unique commercial content. Our photography content has grown drastically since then and continues to day by day. What makes us stand out is the service and relationship you receive from us. We are made up of love while also providing a professional and sufficient experience. Plāts by EB specializes in organic comfort food dishes, and are known for their organic spin on chicken & waffles.
What I am most proud of as a company is our support and decision to serve food with integrity. In today’s world, our food is pumped up with so many things. At Plāts, we truly are founded in and support non-conventional farming practices carrying an organic approach to serving you the right food because we believe in feeding our customers what’s more natural for their bodies, while also letting them know you can eat what you like to just watch the sourcing, and that sets us apart. We are also in the works for launching our first program “Sunday Night Eats”, providing a Sunday Night Dinner atmosphere and culture to those who don’t always have the opportunity or capability to do so.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Faith and drive. Sometimes you have to know without really knowing that it’s going to be okay, it’s going to be freakin fantastic and moments are only temporary. To think before you speak and to listen with intention.
