Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilia Moore.
Hi Emilia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started esthetician school after I struggled with acne for years. After a bad reaction to a product, my skin was so aggravated I went and I got my first facial, my skin felt amazing afterwards and I had never felt more confident. I decided I wanted to help other people feel that same confidence, so I signed up for esthetician school the next week and was in class a month later. I never looked back! I wanted to learn how to treat my own skin and others. I have always loved volunteering and helping people, and helping others with their skin was the perfect career for me. I graduated from The School of Botanical and Medical Aesthetics in 2017. I embrace a holistic approach when it comes to the skin. I absolutely love everything I do and can’t wait to share with others. I especially love being able to help a client feel more confident about themselves. Whether it’s a difference in their skin, new lashes, or a brow shape, the difference in their confidence makes me want to help everyone feel that way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! The first 2 years of my business were a struggle to build clientele. No matter what I seemed to do, my days were never full and I doubted that I made the right choice to become an esthetician. I considered going back to do hair instead of esthetics but decided just to give it a little more time. I completed my acne training soon after and that’s when my business started to get busier than ever. Unfortunately, not long after COVID hit and I was shut down for 3 months. Again, I was wondering again if I should choose another career but decided to stick it out a little longer. When I finally went back to work, I was worried if people were going to feel comfortable coming back in. I was pleasantly surprised and each month after that has continued to be my best yet.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer a variety of facials (including chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasian, hydro facials, and more), full body and face waxing, and lash lifts and tinting. Although I absolutely love everything I offer and it wouldn’t be on the menu if I didn’t love it, I have to say acne is my specialty because that’s what got me started in this industry and that’s what I am most proud of. In 2019, I became a certified Face Reality Acne Specialist. If you have acne-prone skin and haven’t heard of Face Reality, let me just say, you’re missing out! This brand has changed my skin and my outlook on acne. A majority of my clients will find me through the Face Reality line because it WORKS for acne. I had tried a number of lines prior to them and none of them touched my breakouts, so I can personally vouch for it. Seeing a client come in with inflamed skin, their confidence is very low because they have tried everything and nothing works. They have little hope they can change their skin. After my 12-week acne program and seeing amazing progress, I show them their before and after, and they are shocked. Not only has their skin completely transformed, but their confidence has flourished right before my eyes. It’s an amazing feeling. What sets me apart from others is that I believe whatever skin issues you have is not just about what you are putting on your skin. Diet, lifestyle, supplements, and so many other things contribute to the issue and I look at you as a whole person, not just a skin issue.
How do you define success?
Success to me is not as simple as I once thought it was. When I first opened my business, I thought success meant 8-hour filled days, 5 days a week, and booked out a few weeks ahead. I realized along the way that although those things are great, it’s about quality vs quantity. Taking the time with a client to go over their skin issues, coming up with a plan, and explain why I am recommending the products for their skin type without any rush is more important to me than trying to fit in as many clients as I can in one day. Success is watching a client go from zero confidence to 180-degree difference in 12 weeks. It’s about a balanced work-life ratio, so I am not burning myself out working so much that I don’t enjoy the time I am with my clients. When I see a review from a client saying how I changed their life, I realize I have already succeeded.
