Meet Erica Giron of Wealthwave, The How Money Works in Greenwood Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Giron.

Erica, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey has helped me discover my passion, which is helping people and making sure they are protected when they encounter obstacles in their lives. I was 13 years old when my life was profoundly changed. And it was that change, experienced at a time when I should have been concerned with school and friends, that lead me to where I am today helping people secure their family’s financial future.

My father was extremely ill for many years, and it was discovered he had AIDS. He passed in 1990 from this horrible virus, leaving behind a young wife and three young children. My mother was a stay-at-home mom and my father was the main “breadwinner” of our household. Can you imagine the stress and worry of this young mother at this moment – what is she going to do, how is she going to feed her children, what will become of her family? My mother did not have an education or work experience. She barely spoke English, as Spanish was her native language.

So much was going on that for such a young kid, it became a big blur. However, one person stood out – the life insurance guy. I had only seen him twice. He was perfectly polished in his suit and tie and carrying his brown leather briefcase. He was a serious man with few words, but I could tell he had important information to pass on to my mother. I often ask myself why I remember him so vividly. After all, I did not have any interaction with him. Perhaps it is what he brought to my mother that makes him so memorable. You see, my father had the foresight to have a life insurance policy and I saw firsthand the power of what it is to protect your family when the unforeseen happens.

I later discovered that I, too, would like to change people’s lives just like the insurance agent did for my family. I am making it my life’s mission to make sure my clients are protected from all of life’s altering events, such as death, disability, and critical and chronic illnesses. I help them plan for their long term care needs and retirement. I assist with estate planning and so much more, all in honor of my father’s foresight and the security that insurance agent brought to my family so many years ago.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road to leave a six-figure corporate position and start all over from scratch. It takes a lot of courage and awareness that you may get backlash from the people that you love the most because of their fear or their doubts. The perspective from family is that I have already made it and why to change. I felt this intense desire to do more to create a more significant impact in my community, and to do that change must take place. It takes a faithful and robust being to continue to move forward and stay focused on what you believe. I have surrounded myself with other people that have the same mind-set. It’s also essential to have a mentor that has had the experience and a trusted advisor. I am lucky because before I made this transition, I found my mentor.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wealthwave, The How Money Works – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Today, I continue my journey by serving others through education, coaching them on money matters, and helping business owners and families reach their financial goals. I believe education and coaching are the keys to breaking the generational financial curse that a majority of Americans are experiencing today!

The educational aspect of my career is the second reason I am so passionate about it. Many of us have heard of the term “rat race,” but do you know the true meaning of it? Why are we not making better choices when it comes to our money and our spending habits? Why do we not understand the importance of turning ordinary income into a portfolio and that passive income is one of the keys for financial freedom?

Sometimes you just need someone next to you to encourage you through every step in order to reach those goals. Just as we seek the guidance or recommendation of a doctor when we are ill, or seek help from a nutritionist and fitness coach to reach our ideal weight and health, we should seek the guidance of a financial professional. But it seems we are afraid and instead, we simply cover our eyes, believing it is going to go away or get better on its own. The #1 fear of a retiree today is not dying, but going broke in old age. I do not want to be in that position, and I want to help you as well!

I am a proud business owner, a wife, and mother of four beautiful daughters who someday I hope will continue with this mission. To best serve my clients, I am constantly keeping up to date with changes in my field so that I can provide the best solutions for my clients. I am backed and supported by a great team and firm at Transamerica Financial Advisors in the Denver Tech Area in Colorado. I can honestly say, “I love what I do” and, boy, it is so rewarding!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I moved to Colorado fourteen years ago and I fell in love with its beauty that only mother nature can produce with the surrounding mountains, parks, and snow!!! Colorado has so much to offer and explore which I am still doing by visiting its surrounding towns and learning its history. I love the fact that is a great place to raise a family and its one of the top health driven states in the US. Honestly, I cannot think of anything negative. I am extremely grateful for where I am in life.
