Meet Erika Victoria of BDock Productions in Cherry Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Victoria.

Erika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As the daughter of a career radio DJ, music is something that has been close to me since I was little. As I grew into my adolescence, I grew an interest of digital instruments and how to manipulate sounds using different software. Although my love of music production started in 7th grade, it wasn’t until I got into high school that it became a business. Support from my circle of friends, who were also other creatives, pushed me to not only release the projects I had been working on but also capitalize on them. My senior year of high school I sold my first 3 beats for cash on the spot and BDock Productions was born. Once I moved away to college, I purchased my first DJ controller, a Numark Pro 3, and a new love was born. I spent a majority of my time focusing on perfecting my craft as a DJ. BDock Productions had slowly grown into a well-rounded business, licensed as an LLC, focusing in concert promotion, live DJ entertainment, and digital music production. Since my freshman year it has led me to work with some of my favorite artists, travel to some of the most amazing places and put smiles on the face of thousands of people around the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a female in a male dominated industry is never easy. I cannot count the number of times my work has been discredited simply because of my race or gender. In 2019, only 5 of the top 100 DJs were female. As a female DJ/Producer this sexism has pushed me harder to become better every day. When my last project released, I received a comment back that said “I don’t listen to girl music.” That comment has fueled me even harder to break those stigmas and prove there is no such thing as “girl music.” I have absolutely missed opportunities to perform at clubs, concerts and events. It becomes really easy to feel invisible. There have definitely been days I felt like giving up, that it just wasn’t worth the fight anymore. Then I get reminded how many other little girls have the same dream and constantly feel overlooked. This fight is for them, for the little girl inside me that kept her art a secret for so long because she felt no one else would care. My journey hasn’t been easy but it’s easily been worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with BDock Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
BDock Productions focuses on spreading creativity through positivity. Whether you’re an artist looking to collaborate on a sound or a venue looking for entertainment, we do whatever we can to make it as personalized as possible. Most of my own production is released nowhere except to the artist directly. Having grown my business over the last decade, I’m proud to say it has also created work for my small team of photographers, videographers, and graphic designers. These are the people that help make what I do so successful. The project I am most proud of is the last official mixtape I currently have released. The “International Party Mixtape” is a collaboration with Zida Grey from Australia as well as DJ Burlene in Dubai. This all female tape pushed my DJ career in a way I never thought it would. Offering opportunities to perform all over the world. Including my last tour that took me to Shanghai, China, twice. It is amazing to see what this company has grown to be and all of the endless opportunities ahead.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Some of my favorite things about my city are all of the fun places to eat. Outside of music I am a major foodie and Denver is definitely not short of new places to try! There isn’t much to dislike about Denver except being a native the new found traffic on I25 isn’t the greatest thing on earth (I could also do without all the snow)! But, can you blame them? The climate is great for most of the year, we don’t really see a lot of natural disasters, the mountains are beautiful and there are always new things to do and explore in Denver.
