Meet Evan Montoya of Escapism in Studio Share Centrally Located Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Montoya.

Evan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello, it is an honor to share more insight about my life, my creative process and the origins of my story, I began my journey as a producer, audio engineer, sound designer and artist at a young age. Inspired by natural tones and sound effects and the intimacy that sound effects make within traditional music. The intimacy of breathing the slide of guitar strings and embellishments that add what I call texture to songs that we all enjoy. I have always believed that I hear different sounds than others hen interpreting and enjoying music. At the age of 18, I began producing music that had intimate, floating, haunting tones and ambient tonalities, some might have identified it as just overlapping textures with no traditional scene changes, no chorus, no verses, no build-up, no words. Just trying to capture a feeling. I have better explained my process today. Nine years later, as capturing feelings and complimenting a subconscious been of vivid tones. Don’t get me wrong there are drums there are bass lines, and some predictable elements but underlying these traditional instruments lies a changing complex texture that is unpredictable and hopefully captures a feeling or dream I have.

From producing songs for other producers, making songs for commercials and producing my own original music I have really found my calling, I am proud to be a Colorado-based, psychology major, experimental-solo artist that often uses natural and technical blends, creating vivid, untraditional, scene changes that evoke imagination and exploration into deep thought.

The term Intelligent Dance Music has been labeled on my music. I don’t mind what these labels are, I just need to express myself! This process sometimes includes sample-based music that often includes the sounds that Colorado provides, including birds, rivers and trees.

The goal is to re-animate and modulate the natural sounds that are provided and incorporate them with the theme of Escapism which is defined as “escaping reality using your imagination especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.”

Escapism is a theme I think is very relatable to most people. I use pedals, keyboards and a beat machine to create melodic tracks & complex beats complimenting an exciting rhythm. For a solo performer, I try to be as robust and dynamically full as possible, as if I was performing with a full band. Hopefully, I make music that people enjoy and can really feel.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I must admit at first when I began this project I had no idea how much legal paperwork and tax paperwork was involved. Booking agents, Labels, Copywrite, LLC’s, Branding, licensing have all become roads I never thought I would be exploring. Very complex and takes the fun out of wanting to simply just create music. The biggest struggle I have overcome was attempting to make and produce music with bandmates. I doubted my own abilities in the beginning thinking ” I can’t play ALL these instruments!” I found a way, my confidence has increased and waiting on others only to be judged has ended for me. Collaborations, yes always ready to understand and interpret new perspectives. But through some very controversial and failed attempts, I choose to remain a solo act.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Escapism – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am known for being an outspoken, artistic and motivated artist. I have the energy and endurance to toss around creative ideas for days. Actualizing these ideas is another matter. I believe I am manifesting and completing these ideas that I have in my head. I specialize in audio engineering, recording music, producing music, recording my own original music, DJing and being able to make projects happen!

I am proud to be doing this alone, solo and bringing myself to the table to make larger projects even better and being an asset to live performances with like-minded artist, designers and those that can appreciate the fine arts!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is unwritten, with my health permitting I see myself producing music for some of the biggest names in music and art history. Making music for famous movies and being known as a producer in the music industry! I want my future to show that I am hardworking, creative and genuinely invested in creative thinking, collaborative arts and making masses of people move and feel emotions!
