Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankie Zarantonello.
Frankie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never imagined at 32 years old, I would have found a passion so deep for photography and videography. It all started in 2007 as a guitar player growing up playing in local bands of my hometown in St Louis, Missouri. You always had to have an awesome press shot and I thought the quality certain cameras could produce was so intriguing. Fast forward to last year, after living a few years in Denver, Colorado deep within the music scene. I had some friends who shot professional for many artists and I was drawn in by the colors and quality of their work. Around the time I was finding interest in shooting, a friend of mine was leaving town for a short while. He asked if it would be alright to leave some things behind while he was gone. One of the things left behind was a camera and a few lenses. At this point, I felt like the universe was giving me a sign. I would take the camera out to local music shows, diving right into the fire. So after watching many, many lessons and asking professional photographer friends, I started learning the in’s and out’s of the camera’s basic functions. I was hooked and literally was going out daily to shoot and teach myself through trial and error. I was so hooked by the time my friend came back, I had already invested into a new, nicer camera and lens. The upgrade was so nice that I was hooked even more because the new camera shot incredible in low light situations and the video capabilities were amazing. I was shooting so much that people began to notice my new found love and said I really had an eye for it. I started noticing every time I had the camera in my hands and shooting, that a lot of my worries would go away and I truly enjoyed my moments with my camera and passion I had in my fingertips of creating. I started shooting seriously in May of 2019 and haven’t looked back since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life will always be filled with struggles, haha. Being able to see the struggles as growth is the real motivator.
Tell us about your business– what should we know?
I get asked this question a lot as I’ve turned this into a business in such a short period of time. My personality has played a huge role in this business I’ve created. People want to feel comfortable when working with a photographer/videographer. I’m such a polite midwestern kid with a huge heart that I tend to make all of my sessions very comfortable and welcoming. When it comes to photography, I’m known for my editing skills and turn around time. Things I’m known for in the photography side of things would be Live music, Portraits and Product Photography. When it comes to videography I’m known for working with musicians, shooting live events, recaps and some more in depth artist stuff, like mini-documentary, storytelling stuff. I like to work with businesses as well, creating video content ads for their company to help promote it by designing online ads. Music videos have played a pretty big role as well, as I like designing concepts and becoming a creative director to bring ideas to video. As I said earlier, my turn around has really set me apart from what my clients have told me.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First off, my Mother. That woman has been by my side no matter what I dive into as a creative. She has always pushed for me to live the life I want to live, with no regrets. My friend for leaving his camera behind when he did. That was such a pivotal moment of clearly seeing how much I love what I currently do today. The one and only NAT NAT, musical artist based out of Denver, Colorado. He has become such a close, inspirational and motivating friend. He pushes me and my vision 24/7. Keeping in me in check as I continue to grow this business. He also shares the same motivation and determination within his art and we match each others drive like no other.
