Meet Garryn Skurulsky of Wellnest Acupuncture + Holistic Medicine in Washington Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garryn Skurulsky.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Garryn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a licensed acupuncturist in Denver, Colorado, I’m on a mission to mainstream Eastern medicine and make the world and my community a healthier and happier place.

I grew up in the Wisconsin countryside, riding my bike in the forest, playing with insects, and involved in almost every sport imaginable. I tore a ligament in my knee and it greatly impacted my life. I could no longer enjoy the active lifestyle I strongly identified with.

I had an expensive failed surgery that I was told would do the trick. But after inescapable and constant pain, my perception of Western medicine was less than romantic. I moved to Hawaii to try to find some resolve and passionately fell in love with a mysterious Eastern medicine.

My first acupuncture treatment greatly reduced the pain in my knee and the anxiety I carried with me from my trauma was virtually gone. I thought to myself, “I need to do this. I need to help people feel this way!”

This passionate love affair carried me to Santa Cruz, California. I enrolled in Five Branches University’s four-year Master’s degree program of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Immediately after I passed my California Acupuncture board exam and became a licensed acupuncturist, I opened my own practice and although I was successful, I felt the strong pull to move my business to Denver, Colorado. I’ve quickly built up a thriving business here. It’s safe to say this is where I’ll put down roots. I love helping the community here.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Gosh no! Anyone who owns their own business will tell you there is a steep learning curve. With different social media platforms and the pull to increase your SEO it’s hard to stay consistent. Furthermore, it’s difficult to know if the effort you’re putting in will pay off.

Also, I’m recently engaged. Instead of posting on social media or writing blogs, I find myself wanting to snuggle my dog and finance on the couch. Downtime is important but I’d be lying if I said it was easy to find adequate time to commit to your health, your business, and your relationships.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Wellnest Acupuncture + Holistic Medicine – what should we know?
I am highly qualified in cosmetic acupuncture (facial acupuncture) and gua sha. In my clinic, I also successfully treat women with fertility issues helping them navigate pregnancy naturally and through their IUI or IVF process.

Lately, it seems like my clinic is bustling with PCOS patients. As a result, I keep up to date on fertility and PCOS literature both in the western and eastern medical realms.

Other passions include treating insomnia, anxiety, depression, and digestive issues. After the quarantine, I had a lot of people who reached out wanting a treatment to de-stress. I think we all need that right now!

What sets me apart from other acupuncture clinics is that Wellnest is a solo practice. My patients receive a personalized, hands-on approach, I will be your provider throughout your health process. Also, I have studied with the top cosmetic acupuncture masters. For my cosmetic acupuncture facial patients who wish for a natural anti-aging treatment, I have blended what I have learned from my teachers and created my own anti-aging protocol that gets amazing results.

I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built in my community and that people trust me with their life story and health journey.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The reviews my patients post online and the word of mouth referrals are by far the sincerest compliment and propel me to give more. The other day a patient told me that she would be referring her sister-in-law to see me for a cosmetic acupuncture treatment. I responded thanking her for the referral. To which she said, “your work speaks for itself”. These are the small comments that make me feel like I’m doing the right thing. That I’m truly helping people.

My fiance is my rock. The way he lives his life is an inspiration- and I’m not just saying that. He doesn’t have to say much. He just shows up.

Yes, my teachers. My knowledge is a direct link to the lineage of this medicine. We as a human race, stand on the shoulders of giants. I’m not alone in that regard.
