Meet Gayne Dorio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gayne Dorio.

Gayne, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As long as I can remember I’ve had a camera in my hand. I was always fascinated by photography. When I went to high school I took my first photography class and spent time in the darkroom watching the images magically appear on the paper and I was hooked for life.

From that point on photography was all I ever wanted to do. I eventually went to college and continued to study photography but unfortunately, life had other plans and took me in a different direction for a while but my love for photography was never lost. I still grabbed my camera and photographed every chance I got. It was after my grandmother passed and left me a small sum of money that my mom prompted me to spend it to purchase the professional photography gear I always wanted and to turn it into the career I always wanted. That’s how GayneGirl Photography was born!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! It’s definitely been a rough and bump but an interesting road. I initially started my business while I was living in Florida and it was a really hard decision to relocate and have to completely restart my business over again in Colorado. It was very challenging coming to a new area and new market. There was a lot to learn about my new location and new business relationships to develop.  It was an adventure to wander and scout out new locations for sessions. Finding new and interesting ways to advertise, network and make a name for myself  which was one of the biggest challenges I  faced but I was determined to meet new people and get my name out there.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My business is all me! I specialize in Lifestyle portraiture which means photos of people (and animals) in a natural setting that tells a story instead of a more posed studio type of photography. I believe that is what sets me apart from some other photographers out there. Candid photos have always been a favorite of mine and I truly believe those candid moments can tell more of a story than anything else. You get true joy and happiness when you’re being natural and enjoying each other’s company instead of standing in a perfect pose for a photo.

I’m really proud of the fact that the majority of my clients I can call my friends. I love that I get to be a part of all the milestones in my client’s lives and that they call me back, again and again, to share in these joyous moments!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Just recently actually I was called to do pregnancy announcement photos for past clients. They are a young couple that I first met when I did their engagement photos and they were so much fun to work with and so easy going. Eventually, we did some family photos, and I photographed their wedding!

I was so excited when I got the call that they were expecting their first child and wanted me to document the announcement and eventually the maternity and newborn photos. I’ve watched them grow as a couple into a family and have not only gotten to know them but their entire family! There’s not a better feeling out there to me!
