Today we’d like to introduce you to Grip Da Bodyrocka.
Grip Da Bodyrocka, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I it all started once I got free from the system (lockdown) in Indiana in 2006. Then in 2008 I finally left and moved back to my hometown Cleveland, OH. That is where I acquired my name Grip. Meaning big money Grip. Because I lived in the club atmosphere. Buying bottles V.I.P treating my fam, homies & all the beautiful women. So, everybody starts calling me Grip. I have always been a free stylist but decided to take it more serious with writing. That’s when I hooked up with Sons & Wildlife Ent in Lorain, Oh. My hunger grew intensely once I heard my voice on a track with a hard ass beat. I lived to wake up just to go to the studio to record music. The pen & pad became my best friend. Plus, all the positive energy, hunger & passion I was surrounded with. The studio was home-based in a basement. We didn’t have the best of equipment but it was good enough to get the job done. The basement had so much talent. They are the reasons I continued grinding day in day out for success in the music game. I strived to be the best. When they dropped something hot, I was determined to come drop something hotter. It was an inside competition. No one thought they were better than the next artist. We influenced & helped each other get better with our craft! Then after I dropped one of the hottest tracks in the basement my homie/engineer (Chief Rocca) at the time said “bro, you need an acronym with your name” he immediately came up with Da Bodyrocka. And everyone in the squad agreed. So, from that moment on I became Grip aka Da Bodyrocka. As the years went by, I got more serious with learning the business side of things in the music industry, later dropping aka because registering on sites the aka wasn’t allowed on a lot of sites. So now I’m Grip Da Bodyrocka! I remember the 1st biggest show we had. I was the main opener for a tour with Marty mcfly. The love I got from the crowd & the headliner of the tour & his management was unbelievable. To see hundreds of people vibe with me as I did my thing on the stage let me know that I was/am hip hop. So, I never stopped!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it has not been a smooth road. Meeting fake managers or janky promoters are part of the learning experiences. And the fact that I did make my own way, following my own rules in the streets I found myself on the wrong side of the law a couple times. So that definitely slowed me down because I had to start over.
Please tell us about your company.
My company/label Gotgmafia Music Ent. Is my own personal playground. I believe in family so that’s where the Mafia comes from & GOTG means Grip On The Game. I specialize in performing and entertainment. I also am a brand. I have my own clothing line for him & her. I am known for my grit n grind hustling go getting attitude. I’m known for rocking the crowd. I’m very proud that I built my brand & label up from the mud with nobody’s help. I can’t say what sets me apart from others because I don’t worry about what the next man is doing.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have purchased all my beats from the start. Now I’m married to beautiful latina, that supports & gives me suggestions on my career. So, I could have been selling my music once I first starting recording.
