Meet Gretchen Bartek of Adelska Date Night in Central Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gretchen Bartek.

Gretchen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Adelska Date Night started out as Denver Date Nite and we recently changed our name to Adelska because we are going to offer our services in other cities very soon.

Adelska is Icelandic for “to love,” and we create an elevated date night experiences for couples so they can prioritize date night without worrying about all of the details. In addition to date night, we specialize in curating overnight and weekend trips, and we also offer a subscription service where couples rely on us to plan at least one date night itinerary for them per month. We send them to awesome restaurants, bars and activities where they get to experience exclusive services designed by us and our partners.

I started this company because date night was a problem for my husband and I. We actually called it “fight night” for a while. We were young parents, busy entrepreneurs, and well, exhausted. We needed date night to stay connected but researching new places to go, planning the night, booking reservations and getting a babysitter to hang with our kiddos was a huge hurdle. In order to plan worthwhile time together, I ended up going the extra mile to learn about new experiences offered in Denver. My husband’s boss caught on, then my friends started asking me to plan their dates, and Denver Date Nite took on a life of its own.

Today I run the business with my cofounder, Brooke Cheishvili. She is also a mom, wife, and serial entrepreneur. Together we have a blast helping other couples connect over new and elevated experiences that Denver businesses work with us to offer.

Has it been a smooth road?
Building Adelska Date Night has not always been a smooth road, but it has definitely been a fun one.

We have learned a ton about what couples want from the services they pay for. Our customers are established couples and regardless of if they have been dating for two weeks or two decades, they have taught us a lot about expectations they have when they walk into a restaurant, for example.

Our small business partners have also taught us all about their challenges, so we aim to help them connect with the couples who visit them in more creative, elevated ways.

Please tell us about Adelska Date Night. What should we know?
Adelska Date Night plans epic date experiences for couples so that they can prioritize date night – without the frustrations that come with the planning.

We are known for planning date nights, overnight adventures and weekend getaways for couples (both locals and visitors).

We have also ventured into creating memorable experiences for teams. It has been a lot of fun to work with some of Denver’s top tech startups to help them impress their own customers and employees.

That said, we are most proud of the impact we have made on couples. We always hear that husbands and wives are thrilled to have connected “like old times” on their dates. We’re not saving marriages or anything, but we definitely love to see our clients reigniting old passions on their dates with each other.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The consumer experience is constantly evolving. More than anything, we see that people, and especially couples, are paying for experiences more often than things. The memories from a weekend trip together are way more valuable than expensive gifts. Those have their place too, but doing something new together has so much more value than a product that loses its thrill pretty quickly.
