Meet Humphrey Cobb of H and E Furniture in South East Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Humphrey Cobb.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Humphrey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started as a mom and pop second-hand furniture store in 1992. The stores named after my parent’s first names H for Humphrey and E for ERNESTINE.

Through the years the store has moved to a few locations each time growing in size.

As my parents grew the business they have allowed me to take on an ownership role. I’ve been able to transition the business into more stylized furniture, jewelry, and decorative accessories store while keeping the prices affordable.

With the new addition of the Retro Room located on the lower level at H and E Furniture is mid-century modern furniture and decorative arts. This new addition has helped us get to where we are today.

My passion for furniture, art, and objects began with the love of all things James Bond.

Has it been a smooth road?
Small businesses are always a challenge in general. I’ve always taken the approach that things will always be ebb and flow. Having a Corporate retail background I have learned the value of taking advantage of slow periods in the economy. What helped our business was I took advantage of online branding and marketing during those slow periods.

The struggles along the way were learning the process of building relationships with our customers, understanding their needs and earning their trust.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the H and E Furniture story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a resale furniture store with very affordable prices.

We specialize in gently used furniture.

We specialize in outstanding customer service. Always keeping in our tradition that With a great product and excellent customer service is the winning formula.

I’m most proud of my parents for having the vision and insight to set the basics, integrity, strong work ethic, and passion.

What separates our store is the way in which the items are presented so that the customer can be inspired and see the vision on how to use it in their home.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see that the industry if going more green. People are into upcycling and more aware of how things are discarded.

Trends come and go bust style is forever.

I’m excited to see where the trends go being that new homes and spaces are much smaller and designed differently than in the past.
