Meet Imani Douglas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Douglas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always wanted to be an entrepreneur growing up and I have always had an interest in natural remedies so starting a natural skincare line came about pretty organically. I would have friends and family bring me shea butter to make into hair and body butter, and once I did they encouraged me to start a business. I took that advice and ran with it. On February 7, 2017, I purchased my LLC and started working on different recipes for the body and hair butter. I started out with a three ingredient butter that is now a constantly evolving recipe.

When I started my business I would search the internet for ways to improve my butter and grow my skincare business. I wanted to be able to make the best butter and skincare products as possible! I decided to go to Beauty School and get my esthetician license so I could improve the quality of my products and gain practical knowledge about skincare. While I was in school my classmates would ask me to make them scented butter, and from there I started making oil rollers and perfumes of different fragrances. I have plans to continue growing my business while encouraging people to live a healthier more holistic lifestyle one change at a time.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since starting my business there have been times when I wouldn’t be able to fill orders because I would be out of product, or not have containers. So I can say one of my biggest issues has been keeping my current products in stock, also trying to add more products to my business while avoiding constantly changing my pricing.

Please tell us about your business.
I run an all-natural skincare company, I make and purchase everything myself so I am very invested in my business on a personal as well as financial level. I currently specialize in skin care, shea based hair and body butter as well as scented oil rollers and perfume. As a small business, I am proud that my first business has been so successful and well-received in the Colorado area. Making shea based products requires a lot of patience and I whip everything so the shea keeps all of its beneficial properties.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say being flexible and trying to look on the bright side of things as well remembering why you started, makes a huge impact. Over the last two years I would think about giving up and every time I would receive an online order and be reminded that I need to keep going.

  • I make 2 oz Body and Hair Butter ranging from $10 for Scented, $15 for Hair/Topical and $20 for Severe Pain
