Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabelle Faletti
Hi Isabelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
With a background of working in marketing agencies, I’ve always thrived when I’ve been able to work with multiple businesses and campaigns. I love learning about new industries and challenges to overcome. In March 2017, I decided to jump all in of owning my own marketing company, and it’s been a challenging and fulfilling journey ever since! I started offering full digital marketing services as one person (me!) and saying yes to any clients. Thanks to lessons learned after falling on my face and amazing mentors, I am now at a place where I can select my ideal client so that I am able to completely focus on their mission and fit their budget.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! I’m a hiker, so even though the uphill, rocky paths kill your quads and lungs, the alpine lake is always worth it. Owning your business is a bit like that. There are times when you want to quit, moments when you have to rest, and victories that become a part of your DNA. When you’re dreaming and planning to branch out on your own as I did, it’s so easy to get caught up in the entrepreneurship dream of being self-employed, the ability to work from anywhere, and the joys of being your own boss. Yet, in reality, owning your business is crazy hard work that includes lots of late nights, stuffing your face with Cheese Puffs, obsessive scanning of your budget, troubleshooting your health insurance options, and so much more than the blogs don’t talk about! I remember feeling cheated and very confused of how to be your own salesperson, marketer, accountant, and so much more!
Yet, those challenges were needed to refine me as a business owner. It forced me to take a long, deep look at my motivators, values, and how I truly wanted to live my life. Long story short, I now run Sparrow 25 Marketing part-time and have a full-time marketing/communications job. I think in the entrepreneurship world, you can feel like you haven’t “made it” if you’re not full-time, yet I love being able to work with multiple business owners using my talents to grow their business. My passion is to ultimately help other entrepreneurs go out on their own and have success in their small business… and often that means offering affordable marketing services, a listening ear, a word of encouragement, social shares, and lots of helpful free advice. One of my goals is to launch a podcast that shares about the reality of owing your own business and highlighting the joys and sorrows of being a business owner while also offering helpful tips to success. For example, accounting was so confusing to me starting out, and I needed someone who had gone before me to offer a roadmap to success. I love every new season of my business!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My marketing business is called Sparrow 25 Marketing, and I offer copywriting and marketing/communications strategy for small businesses. I love helping solopreneurs and entrepreneurs pursue their dream and fulfill their business goals. My clients work with me because I take the time to truly get to know their business, audience, and goals. I help small businesses grow their brands with smart, affordable marketing. So… as my mom says, “what do you actually do?” In short, I’m a writer, strategist, and brand cheerleader. Writing copy for a business’s website, email campaigns, blog articles, social media campaign, etc. is like candy to me.
Good copy is all about good communication and trust-building with your audience. I love that I can take the time to get to know my clients so that every word I write and strategy I create is an extension of the individual behind the business. I love working with entrepreneurs who can’t afford a large agency but still need help to grow their business. It’s easy to get caught up in the “you can do it all yourself” philosophy. Yet if you’ve ever done that, you know it only leads to stress, burnout, and potentially some late night ice cream binges. I step into a business owner’s world as an extension of their marketing team for however long they need me to guide them. Depending on the client, they may need my help writing their website copy, creating a brand voice, launching a lead generation campaign, or providing an ongoing communications strategy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve been fortunate in the past few years to connect with some networking groups and mentors that have helped me identify what I want my business to look like. I’m the business owner so I can choose who my clients are that concept took me a while to embrace! My heart is with solopreneurs and small businesses and working with that audience sparks my creativity and ideas. Starting out, I so desperately needed help with my brand but couldn’t afford a lot of the services out there. I was fortunate to receive help from my network of creatives to get my business off the ground, and I want to be a catalyst for other small businesses. I’ve also been fortunate to get involved in my local Tuesdays Together networking group, and that has provided a lot of new friends and business opportunities.
