Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaias Gutierrez.
Isaias, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and grew up going to the same old-time, classic barbershop with my grandfather for close to 20 years. Through the influence of my grandfather, I knew at a young age, I wanted to pursue a career in barbering and have now been a licensed barber for over six years. I have had the privilege of working alongside some incredible barbers in some awesome shops as I have continued my career and education.
Education, a great deal of practice, an open mind, and a willingness to learn, has helped me progress in my career and become the barber I am today. I now work in a beautiful barbershop alongside good friends who continue to push me to be better both in my work and everyday life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming the barber and person I am now was not smooth, it was a bumpy road with a few twists and turns. I started my career in Albuquerque but ultimately wanted to end up in Denver. I was in the process of making this change when I hit what has probably been my biggest challenge yet. When I was 21 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. I had to pause my career to focus on my health and healing. After surgery, weeks in the hospital, and a massive lifestyle change I was able to overcome the cancer and keep pushing my career along.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in high-quality haircuts and face shaves. I am known for my work with short hair, more specifically, my fade work. I strive to be proficient in all aspects of hair and grooming and use education to push the areas that aren’t my strongest. I am most proud of my work ethic and my ability to connect with guests in my chair. I believe I go the extra steps to ensure that my guests receive the highest quality experience and that I am always there to support and help set my coworkers up for the same success.
I believe that our ability to give an incredible service tailored to each individual guests is what sets myself and the barbers of Rosemont apart from others in our industry. We are able to do this in a professional, fun and inviting environment. We also all work together to share our strengths and teach each other each day.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
One driving characteristic for me is my eagerness to learn. I am always looking for ways to challenge my current techniques and further my education. It is important to me to use every learning moment I can to push myself to become a barber who can provide for every individual that sits in my chair.
