Today we’d like to introduce you to Israel Ruybal.
Israel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I never missed out on playing sports. I played baseball, basketball and never missed a season of football. During my junior year of high school, my father developed the applications for Store2frontdoor. It was time that I started making my own money, so I worked with my dad building playsets and gazebos on the weekends and often delivered other products during the week. This helped me develop a good work ethic by balancing the stress from school, work and football practice every night.
After I had graduated, I received the incredible news that I was going to be a father. It was important for me to be able to support my family. I worked three jobs at the age of 19. About a year after my daughter was born, my father was in the process of developing an application for another business. He decided to step down from Store2frontdoor to branch off to continue his new work and was in the need for someone to take over as CEO. Without any hesitation, I left my other jobs and made running Store2frontdoor my full-time job.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One major struggle I’ve faced is extending the reach of my applications. We live in a “do it yourself” era where people like to attempt something on their own before paying someone else to do it for them. I feel people today, myself especially, tend to shop frequently on impulse. Then, when it comes time to actually getting the product to their home and setting it up, people lose sight as to how it’s going to get done.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
The Store2frontdoor consumer’s app offers on-demand delivery and assembly services for big retail stores such as Amazon, Sam’s Club, Dick’s Sporting Goods and many more. A customer can purchase items such as exercise equipment, furniture or even outdoor accessories, such as sheds and playsets. Our app allows the store to release the product a customer purchases to any of our qualified technicians. We then can deliver the product to the customer’s home, as well as assemble the product if needed. Our customers range from five-year-olds excited for their new playhouse or swing sets to an authorized installer for the Denver Broncos.
The Store2frontdoor technician app is for handy people who have the ability to perform these tasks and want to make an extra income without having to leave their full-time job. A technician downloads our “Store2frontdoor tech” app, creates an account and sets their availability. They can build their weekly schedule as desired, based on stops in their area.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve always been interested in putting things together and taking them apart to see how they function. I had a childhood friend who lived in my neighborhood. I would walk over to his house after school and build with legos almost every week. His mother decided to let me have their trampoline before they moved. My dad and I rolled the trampoline from his house to my backyard and assembled it.
I got such a rush putting that trampoline together, experiencing the process for the first time and getting the feeling of accomplishment when it was finished. I get that same feeling today when I finish a build for a customer, no matter how big or small the job.
