Meet James Weingarten of FLOAT – For Love Of All Things in West Colfax

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Weingarten.

Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
FLOAT was founded in 2013 under the premise that businesses are in a unique position to affect positive change. I had a deep passion for animals and the outdoors, both of which were facing challenges above and beyond what they had ever faced before, and I knew I wanted to help. The thought of focusing on a particular animal or region of the world and starting an NPO of my own had crossed my mind, but on closer inspection, I came to realize the organizations were already there, they just needed funding and awareness to complete their missions. Wondering how I could help them accomplish those things, FLOAT was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We’ve faced stiff and growing competition from competitors that have a lot deeper pockets than we do, which has been a challenge. They have entire teams dedicated to marketing, site development, etc. where we just have two of us that do pretty much everything. We’ve stayed afloat by focusing on our strengths, like the amazing artwork we create, the eco-friendly packaging we use and maintaining strong relationships with our charity partners. We also have kick-ass customer service!

Please tell us about FLOAT – For Love Of All Things.
FLOAT partners with the world’s best conservation-based organizations to help them create funding and awareness for their missions through limited edition week long apparel campaigns. We’re best known for producing killer designs featuring endangered animals and a beautiful range of colors and giving $8 away from every item we sell. Our team ships new designs every week using 100% recycled packaging and we always throw in a FLOAT sticker for the water bottle or cooler. Our model gives an unprecedented percentage of revenues to charity and proves that business can be a force for good!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There’s always an element of luck involved in any success in my opinion but for FLOAT, the old adage of ‘you make your own luck’ rings true as well. We’ve worked hard to partner with the best organizations and give them the best experience. Our charity partners and our supporters trust us and know that we’re a force for good, that’s why they get behind us.
