Meet Jamie Downing of LittyKitter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Downing.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey starts from the moment I picked up my first instrument, from playing trombone in marching band to being a bassist and pianist in various bands throughout high school. 2013 is when I really fell in love with electronic music, the first show I went to believe it or not was “Bingo Players” at a club in Florida that I don’t even think exists anymore. The more time I spent in the crowd connecting with like-minded individuals, the more it solidified the idea that I wanted to create these kinds of connections too.

I continued exploring the scene until I was able to find the niche I was looking to create as-well. 2015 is when I got my hands on my first ever DAW and there was no looking back. I’m not the kind of person that likes to sit and read a manual cover to cover, so I just jumped into the program and allowed myself to learn the only way I ever had, by pushing all the buttons.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Back in 2016, I dropped my entire life in Florida and hopped in a buggy and moved halfway across the country to Colorado, to a place where I didn’t know anyone. That was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done, but the challenges didn’t end there.

With time, however, I started meeting more and more people who shared similar interests, values, and goals who inspired me to really want to develop my craft to the best of my abilities. I spent countless hours, night and day, working in Ableton until I was able to put out something I was truly proud of, it takes a long time to get to the point where you feel like your music is a complete expression of yourself, but it is one of the most rewarding feelings I’ve ever experienced.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success can range from the little things to the really big things too, it’s all about perspective. Playing a sold-out show with all your friends, at one of your favorite Denver venue’s is huge to mean and means more then the world to be able to do something like that. I think success is the best when you can share in it with the people you care about.
