Meet Jed Levin of Piper Inn in South East Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jed Levin.

Jed, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For over 50 years the Piper Inn has been a friendly neighborhood bar. The Piper Inn opened during a time when rural farmers from the now Denver and Aurora area rode their horses to the bar. The hitching post was located near what is now the carwash and a dirt airstrip was across the way; hence the name Piper Inn.

The Piper Inn has been a mainstay and is considered by many to be a historical landmark. After being through many area developments it still attracts people from all walks of life. Bikers, softball teams, and an eclectic mix including grandmothers are among the many who come to enjoy the famous Asian Hot Wings as well as the friendly service. Voted by Westword Magazine as “Best Wings in Denver,” and written up in Denver’s 5280 Magazine as “One of the top biker places in Denver to stop and take in the sights,”

Now in its third generation of ownership, the Piper Inn is proud to be one of the true Denver originals.

Has it been a smooth road?
Over the course of 51 years and three generations in operation, there’s no doubt that there have been many struggles along the way. One thing remains true about the Piper Inn, however we have the most loyal, committed and nicest group of customers on the planet. In a long time, we’ve been in operation, the customer base has been cultivated and cared for to such an extent that everyone there considers each other family. There is almost nothing we wouldn’t do for our customers, and I’m certain the feeling is mutual.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Piper Inn has long been known for three things:

 1) The best wings in Denver.

 2) A friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

 3) A menu of food and drinks that won’t set you back a fortune.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Since we’ve been a Denver staple for so long, we have truly become integrated in our corner of Denver as the local watering hole. We certainly have been welcomed into the city, in our own, special way. To start a new business like ours in the Southeast corner of Denver would certainly be a challenge. Our corner of Denver isn’t particularly welcoming to new concepts – to do open something around here, you’d be best off sticking with a known formula. It would be great to see an effort on the part of the city of Denver to encourage new concepts and unique independent businesses in our area, but I know that’s probably far-fetched.
