Meet Jen Rigsby of Front Range Educational Consulting in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Rigsby.

Jen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in education as a teacher at some of the top public and private schools in the state. I realized when I was teaching that not every child thrives in the same school environment and, at times, teachers are unable to meet the needs of their unique students.

In addition, the Denver area has more charter, innovation, magnet, and option schools than anywhere in the country and as a result, families are uncertain of what type of school their child would do best in. I began consulting families on how they can identify “the best fit ” school and educational setting for their children. I tour over 70 schools a year all over the metro Denver and Boulder areas as well as conduct 30 or more classroom observations. Hence, I am able to give families the insight that they need to make an educated decision about their child’s academic future based on experience and not subjective websites.

In addition, I aid families who are applying to the top private schools with interview and essay review. My success rates are the best in the Denver area.

Finally, a large portion of my business are families who are relocating. By leveraging my network, personalized approach and educational knowledge, my services greatly reduce stress for the hundreds of families I have worked with over the years. When families speak with me prior to starting the home search, they find their new home faster because they arrive in Colorado, confident that their realtor will show them homes that provide the best education for their unique family needs. With this confidence, they find their new home faster. I work with various real estate agents around Denver/Boulder as well as with human resources departments of some of the largest companies in the state.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been very lucky that it has been a smooth road. My clients are amazing and 100% of my business is referral. I do not advertise.

The biggest hurdle has been how to handle the incredible growth of my business. Initially, I thought this would be a great part-time venture that would allow me the time to be a mom. Yet, as I have grown, I have had to make changes that have impacted my time with my family. Though it has been a positive thing for my daughter to see. She is only five, but tells me often she wants to own her own business someday.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Front Range Educational Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
The Denver area has more charter, magnet, innovation and option schools than anywhere else in the country. As a result, it is incredibly difficult to identify which school and philosophy best meet the needs of your child. I tour over 70 schools a year and conduct approximately 30 classroom observations. Hence I can give families the valuable information that you can’t glean from a website. I have a vast personal and professional network that provide public and non-public information such as budget decisions, staff changes and other leading indicators that support or detract from the future of various private and public schools.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think luck has occurred in my business due to my amazing clients. As I mentioned in a previous question, 100% of my business is referral. I have been lucky to have clients who have spread the word about my services for years.
