Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Dornseif.
Jenna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, looking back – the journey to what Synced Spaces is today started when I was really young. As early as I can remember putting order to things was something that was not only second nature but an obsession of mine. What initially had caused me a lot of anxiety and stress became the wonderful gift of calmness and clarity that I now get to share with so many others. Through that journey, I came to fully understand and identify the effect that our physical spaces and how we surround ourselves directly affects how we feel, our performance and even our relationships with others. A theory that I have come to call “Organizational Happiness”. It wasn’t until the early twenties that I openly expressed my own personal struggles and started helping others “for fun”.
I am sure most people’s advice when you tell them that your “for fun hobby” was starting to take on a life of its own, would be that you shouldn’t leave the corporate world to pursue it fulltime. But five years ago I did just that and I am so thankful, fulfilled and blissfully busy since then!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! but that’s why my decision to run full speed into the unknown has been such a fulfilling one. I started Synced Spaces with really realistic expectations. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I believed in myself and what I wanted to do so fully that I knew I would do whatever I needed to succeed.
Starting your own business is full of struggles, and I think those can look different for each business. I knew I was bringing a specific skill set that I was confident in, but then there were about 1,000 things I knew I could improve on or learn. That aspect has never ended though, with each level of success or growth, comes a new set of challenges.
I know anyone who has been there on my journey would agree with this one, but I would say hands down that my biggest struggle has been reimagining how I work and play. Creating a business out of something I am truly passionate about and LOVE doing is a dream come true and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. But in the past when I felt like I needed some R&R I would organize and clean to clear my mind, so I have had to change that pattern.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success comes in so many variations, and honestly, I think it is somewhat of a personal thing. Success to me is achieving the personal goals I set for myself. This can be daily, weekly or even long term, but it doesn’t have to be this societal picture-perfect idea of what things will be like when that success is finally achieved. My biggest fear for myself or anyone who is placing “success” on this life long pedestal, is that they will miss all the good stuff. Maybe the journey to success is what it’s all really about. So I strive to make goals and consider myself successful if I wake up to do what I love, connect and help others, and feel fulfilled by family and friends.
