Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Smith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeremy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started in fashion primarily with doing some modeling in my past as a freelance model. I had some experience modeling with an agency before and was heavily involved in male modeling growing up since I was 20 years old. I had been right at 140lbs most of my teenage/high school years and with a bit of discipline and a roommate at the time with extensive knowledge in fitness & nutrition, that propelled me to work even harder, having gained nearly 40 pounds in just a matter of three months.
Working full-time in hospitality, it was just a few years later I moved to Los Angeles, where I had met with my company now that like my service towards them so much, that they asked me to work with them in opening up in the States. I have now been with World Management since April 2019, and we have opened locations in Denver, Houston, and Las Vegas, along with the eight cities in Canada they already had prior to opening in Los Angeles.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think a lot of the struggles were being new to the company and the business side, there was little room to learn so much in such a short amount of time, I had to learn as I went when I started out. There’s only so much of the internet that can give you legitimate credibility, it gave me the challenge but also the opportunity to break some of the fashion myths that are everywhere online, and guide models as an industry professional, but also being relatable as I once was on the other side of the table for so long myself.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I am an Agency Director for World Management, which is based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. World has been in over 26 countries with 60 or more international placements and has opened in over 13 locations in just a little over two years. I specialize in conducting interviews, setting up castings and events, reaching out to new clients and help marketing for the company. I would say I am most proud of what we have accomplished in the short amount of time we’ve been an agency.
Our President has over 20 years of experience alone, and he has so much professionalism and expertise in this industry, as well as a strong team who’ve all got impressive resumes of their own. What sets myself apart from the others is having an extensive modeling background, I am able to see both sides of the fence both as a model and industry professional, on how to take on situations with better understanding and getting models into the right path with the most credibility.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to still be with World Management and to grow and learn from my team as much as possible. We run a tight ship as a team, and overall, have been very effective for what we do for each other. I’m looking forward to seeing just how much further we can push ourselves and our models, as we do have plans to go overseas in the future, although the focal point being here in Canada & USA for the time being.
