Meet Jessica Marsh of Say I Do Formal Hair and Makeup in Westminster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Marsh.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This all started as a dream for me in the hopes of using my passion for beauty and art together. I’m Jessica, I’m a Colorado native and a licensed cosmetologist since 2010. A couple of years ago now I woke up one day and realized my talent would be best used if I took a leap of faith and started my own style business that really focuses on the beauty and glow of women. I’m a mother of 2 boys (not doing braids and pretty princess makeup at home, unfortunately). I love to get out and explore Colorado’s natural beauty, weather and scenery.

I started doing bridal hair and makeup in 2012 as an add-on service for a couple of photographers, and in 2016 branched out on my own and started Say I Do Formal Hair. It started with just hair and has now grown to both hair and makeup services. I decided that I really wanted to focus on being environmentally conscious (glass packaging / low waste products) and using only Cruelty-Free/ Vegan/ Gluten / Paraben Free products which my clients love!

Has it been a smooth road?
As with every new business, there were a lot of hurdles in the beginning. Trying to balance work and home life was nearly impossible, and most of my work was getting done late at night or at odd hours. Learning how to be both a business owner while making sure to stay sharp in my craft was a non-stop effort. Choosing a direction after cosmetology school was a challenge with so many different directions, but I was able to find my niche after getting booked as an assistant at a few weddings here and there. Now that I have a great group of other vendors and partners, it makes everything flow much better. Just breaking into the wedding circuit was the hardest part, and now that people recognize my drive, I can focus on growing the business the right way and not just staying afloat.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Say I Do Formal Hair and Makeup LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company has deep roots in family, even though I am leading the business from a day-to-day perspective. Currently, I run a small studio in Westminster, Colorado that is half photography and half pre-trial and eyelash studio. I have equipped my kit with all vegan, organic and cruelty-free products that will always make the bride look great and feel great about going with my business.

We partner with a lot of different photographers to keep the space full, and its been a great way to make connections in the industry. I specialize in wedding makeup and hair styling from eloping to large weddings. What really separates myself and the business from the rest is my workflow for an event; I have honed the process of booking and communicating with future brides and coordinators so I can focus solely on what the bride and her party want. Style is everything, and I get to focus on that!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m an Arvada Native (with little Arvada natives even), I went to Ralston Valley High School and Regency Beauty Institute that used to be in Arvada. I love everything about Arvada. As a kid to an adult, I’ve always stayed in the same area as my family. One of the reasons I choice to base my Studio in Arvada.

I love how small and personal Arvada is, and I love that there is a large grouping of natives in the area. It is incredible to be in the area because it’s beautiful travel all within 20 minutes from Denver, 20 Minutes to Boulder, 20 minutes to Golden. I couldn’t ask for a better location. However, it’s even more amazing because 90% of my business is on site so I get to see every city of Colorado over the wedding season.
