Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Wagner.
Jessie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working as a makeup artist when I was 21 years old. Over time I kept finding women sitting in my chair that there were so mean to themselves and sharing their stories of how they didn’t see their own beauty. I always loved helping women feel great on the outside but I was yearning for something more and knew there was a way I could help beyond helping their physical appearance. In 2018 I became a Certified Life Coach and I now help women from the inside out. I believe true beauty is an inside job, but a little makeup never hurts.
Between my own story of learning to love myself, and now the countless women I have helped, I truly believe in the power of self-love.. You can change your life when you learn to love who you are, inside and out. It’s empowering!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The life of an entrepreneur of any kind is never a smooth road. I believe my failures have taught me some of my biggest lessons and looking back I’m grateful for them. Some of my biggest challenges were ones I put there myself. For a long time,, I had convinced myself that my story was not worth telling and it wasn’t worth trying to put myself out there with my blog & brand. Luckily I overcame that negative self-talk and finally clicked the “publish” button three years ago, and have never looked back. My audience may have changed, I certainly have changed, but I do my best to stay true to who I am and always speak my truth.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I would call my business a lifestyle brand. I offer services that include coaching and makeup but I also write about my life and things I’m dealing with as a woman, entrepreneur, and now my newest role, as a mom.
I would say I am best known for the content I share on my Instagram. I use that platform as a mini-blog and you can find me sharing helpful tips on my “Tip Tuesday’s” on my Instagram story.
I think what sets me apart from other lifestyle brands is that though I do post pretty pictures that I have a professional take, I’m also not afraid to post a real-time photo of something going on in my life right now, unfiltered, raw, and real. I think in this day and age your digital footprint marks so much of who you are and how others perceive you, and I want to make sure that people know I’m more concerned with sharing truths than making sure my feed looks “picture perfect.”
I think one of the things I’m most proud of is that though my following might be small, my engagement is high. I believe my following to be a small but mighty force. I can’t tell you how often I have people write heartfelt, genuine comments and messages to me because of something I said that resonated with them. That’s why I do what I do, I want people to know they are never alone and when I get that reassurance, it fills me up and fuels my fire.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment in my career so far was the first time I had a public speaking event. It’s something I had wanted to do for a long time, something I knew might make me nervous but also something I knew was important to me and my brand.
I’ve since had three additional speaking/presentation type engagements and I leave each one feeling so good! I love getting in front of other women and sharing what I’ve learned along the way so that hopefully they can take at least one nugget of truth home with them to implement in their own lives. It’s part of my five-year goals to have my own TED talk so stay tuned!
