Meet Joe Denny and Sarah Caston of Luminous Hair Studio in South Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Denny and Sarah Caston.

Joe and Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with an honest conversation over wine one night. As professionals in an industry we’d mutually loved for many, many years, we knew we wanted to make an impact. We wondered what we could do to add to it. At the same time, we both realized we’d been walking through the same doors for far too long and were ready for new challenges and adventure. “If we were to open a salon, what could we do to make it special?”  We truly wanted to make our new salon someplace where people could get luxury hair services from some of the best providers in the city. At the same time, we wanted to create a place where people could come and feel like family –– a place where connections are made and our clients have the freedom to be themselves. A place that radiates light into the world. That’s the moment Luminous was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about our transition from employees to business owners was easy. It started with us leaving our former employer sooner than expected and scrambling to find a place to work while simultaneously doing permitting and buildout for our salon. While we had found a transitional space that suited our needs, the pandemic rendered us jobless for seven weeks, and we wound up paying for a buildout bill that ended up six times more than we had originally projected. We then had to make a plan to find time for everyone who had gone without hair services for seven weeks all while figuring out the new landscape of what in-salon life would be like following new mandated procedures  –– because client safety and comfort has been (and always will be) our first priority!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luminous Hair Studio – what should we know?
We specialize in coloring, cutting & styling, bridal hair, and hair extensions. We are known for our five-star service and our talented stylists & color specialists. We are proud to offer luxury services in a laid back, fun environment that makes people feel relaxed and at home.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Listening to our customers and relating to them so that we can better understand them and serve them. Constantly learning new techniques and attending continuing education to keep skills sharp and to ignite more creativity and passion that we can then bring back and share with our treasured guests.
