Meet Joe Seehusen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Seehusen.

Joe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had an exciting adventure to get to where I am today. I grew up in a wonderful home on 5 acres, just outside of Rochester, MN, where the Mayo Clinic is located. Being the youngest of four children, I had the good path paved for me and grew up happy in a very loving family. We had three-wheelers, dirtbikes, snowmobiles, old cars, and a good amount of kids my age in the neighborhood that kept me in and out of trouble! I had a knack for playing football and baseball, which I continued with at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where I earned a B.A. in Marketing. I always admired the taste of music my older siblings listened to and found myself listening to a higher quality of music than what was on the radio. I spent my time with people who had the same interests, that were always ready to have a good time. Our priority every summer would be traveling to see big concerts and festivals. My one regret was not seeing Jerry Garcia play with the Grateful Dead before he passed in 1995. I was only 17 when he died. That experience made me want to see as much live music as I can because I knew life can throw you a curveball and some opportunities only come around once. I found myself going to see bands like, Phish, Widespread Panic, anything Grateful Dead related, and collecting live bootleg recordings of all sorts of other bands. I have so many good friends and memories from growing up in Minnesota.

A few years after graduating from college, I made the decision to move to Boulder, CO in 2002, because I had some friends who lived there who were in a popular jam band. They were playing all over the front range and they helped me get my foot in the door of the local music industry. I got a position at the Fox Theatre selling tickets and helped manage the theatre for about 5 years. I was living a block off Pearl St and seeing easily 150 shows a year, including 10-20 at the local church (Red Rocks Amph.) each summer. I became addicted to collecting vinyl records, reel to reel tapes, and vintage HiFi electronics. There is something about listening to powerful equipment and learning about all this exciting stuff. I’m pretty far down the rabbit hole…

In October of 2011, I met Kathryn Tighe, the vixen I have been waiting for! She is my shining star and the gal I will be marrying this Sept! I definitely have the better deal in this relationship. She puts up with me and is by my side through all this. We now call Arvada our home.

Has it been a smooth road?
As you could imagine, living the lifestyle that I did, I didn’t have any scratch in my pocket. As I got older, the music industry got tiring and it really never paid that much. Kathryn and I decided to follow in my parents’ footsteps and get into selling residential real estate in 2014. We both had high hopes, sales, and marketing experience, and knew a ton of people. It was a struggle to get our new career and business off the ground. I had to dust off my nice clothes, cut my party mullet, and strive to be more professional. Although, you will still see us at a good amount of concerts. We saw 52 shows in 2018, so we still enjoy getting out or jumping on a plane for a long weekend somewhere.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Kathryn and I have been partners in real estate for a few years now. We both have a passion for it and have had some excellent mentors over the years, including my parents in MN, who have been Realtors almost my whole life. They did a fine job grooming me into the person I am today because I saw first hand how to treat people to get deals to the closing table. We absolutely love being apart of the family of Realtors at Colorado Home Realty. We have a cute little office above Global Goods Coffee in the heart of Olde Town Arvada. We assist both residential home buyers and sellers on the front range but specialize in west Denver. We will go to battle for any and all of our clients. Our goal is to minimize the stress of a transaction and have a good time doing it. We work only off referrals and are happy to sit down with anyone to learn about their situation and see if we’re a good fit for each other.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
After living in Boulder for 12 years, I moved in with Kathryn on South Pearl St in Denver’s Platte Park neighborhood. We thoroughly loved living in that neighborhood but couldn’t afford to purchase a home there at that time. We were fortunate enough to find the perfect community in Arvada 4 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of it. The list is long on why this area is considered the “Best Suburb in CO”. We like the people here and the convenience for everything in all directions. Spending time in our community is very important to us. We are Ambassadors for the Arvada Chamber of Commerce and are Co-Chairs for the NW Metro Satellite Rotary Club. We’re always trying to add flavor and spice to whatever we do!
