Today we’d like to introduce you to John Pierson.
John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Servant Coffee was born out of a passion for coffee and a desire to serve others well in this world. My journey into coffee began when I left my job in London after nearly 15 years with the same company in oil and gas. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company and can’t say enough about the people there who made it special. I was able to learn from some amazing leaders and most importantly how to value others. However, I had come to the point in my career where I wanted to take on some new challenges.
So upon leaving London, my wife and I and our two kids packed up our stuff shipped it to the US, and we flew east for a new adventure. I took a bit of a sabbatical and we traveled through SE Asia for about four months. My wife has a travel company and we always wanted to explore that part of the world to help build her business, but we also wanted to explore a bit with the kids before they got tied into full-time school. It was such a blessing for all of us, there were certainly challenges and tough days but we learned a ton. We got to visit some amazing charities in that part of the world and I found myself wanting to give back in a similar way.
Coffee became that avenue for me after we spent two weeks in Colombia visiting the coffee regions. We stayed on a coffee plantation and I fell in love with learning about the cultivation and how specialty coffee was changing lives. I knew I had found my new calling. So we moved to Denver in Sept of 2018 and we launched the formation process for Servant Coffee in the first quarter of 2019. We launched the website in Oct 2019 and are now fulfilling orders for both retail and wholesale. We have a passion for delivering an amazing coffee experience to our clients, but more than that having a servant leadership heart in all we do. It’s been an incredible ride so far and we feel incredibly blessed to have this wonderful business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have been incredibly blessed along the way. Our friends and family network truly helped us launch in a meaningful and successful way and we would not be here today without their support. I can’t thank them enough! We certainly had obstacles and challenges to overcome during our first year of formation, but one of the most valuable lessons I have learned from other entrepreneurs is persistency. Stay positive, motivated, and always looking ahead. There is always a solution to every problem, and usually someone willing to help you, you just have to ask.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Servant Coffee story. Tell us more about the business.
Servant Coffee is an artisan coffee roasting business focused on crafting amazing coffee while consistently striving to ask how can we serve each other well in this world. We believe business can be a force for good, and that we lie at the intersection of efficiency and social responsibility.
We believe in relationships, all the way from our clients to the producers at origin. We want to focus on harnessing those connections in an effort to further the drive for transparency and traceability in the supply chain. We also believe in a local community impact, which is why we have partnered with two local charities here in Denver, MileHigh Workshop and Providence Network. Both of these organizations are making a meaningful impact on people’s lives as they look to help those in need, both on the job and housing front. And we could not be more proud to have formed these relationships to support their work.
We believe in quality. Our clients expect an amazing coffee which is backed by purpose, and we work tirelessly to deliver beyond expectations. If we don’t succeed in our promises, then we can’t help others along the way.

Are you missing a dog? Humane Society of the South Platte just called me about Maudie. Trying to find her in our records now.
