Meet Jon Winfrey of Sherwood Stickers in Colorado Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Winfrey.

Jon, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We began our business journey back in 2012. But our love for good old-fashioned wood-working began back in high school, where we fell in love with the art of woodcraft. In a world of plastic and manufactured materials, working with wood takes us back to a more simple time, where love and hard work goes into each individual piece.

Circa 2012, after continually stock-piling broken skateboards, we found an innovative way to recycle them and began our business endeavor- by turning the skateboards into sunglasses (www.wearEQO.com). After many years of working tirelessly on this project (an even obtaining a Patent) we began to expand our options.

So we went back to our roots, paired our creativity and woodworking skills to offer a whole new realm of products. This allowed us the freedom to make each piece as unique as the next. We now have not only sunglasses, but simple home decor such as coasters, stickers and ornaments, and elaborate wall decor. All available on our Etsy site, under the name SherwoodStickers.

We believe in providing our customers with not only quality but against the grain (pun-indented) pieces. The diversity of patterns and the grain in each piece of wood makes each piece unique. We love working and collaborating to make custom pieces and encourage custom requests. We are excited to continue our journey, provide pieces that we are proud to make, and are thrilled to be able to share our hard work with those truly appreciate the art of handmade products.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with starting any business, there have been many challenges we have faced. Starting a company from the ground up is an eye-opening experience, and most of the lessons we have learned came from learning from our mistakes. Through hard work, perseverance, and a little creativity, we have managed to cultivate a unique line of products that continue to inspire & excite our core base of customers.

Growing and expanding with demand is always a challenge, but we have successfully met many obstacles thrown our way, and continue with resilience!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sherwood Stickers – what should we know?
As a small, family-owned operation, we value ourselves on our commitment to customer service. Being able to take our time with each individual order allows us to provide quick and quality work. We’re very fortunate to have a small set of loyal commercial customers, who we provide custom manufacturing/promotional services to. This has allowed us to expand our capabilities & offer unique, handmade products that we develop fully in-house. We are excited to continue to provide new products every week!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We owe everything to our family, friends and loyal customers, without the help and support from all these people, we would not have the ability to do what we love every day. From our Kickstarter campaign in 2012 to the continued success we have today, none of it would be possible without you!
