Meet Jose Ortiz of Mozze in West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Ortiz.

Jose, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started back in my Jr. Year in High School. I had registered late for classes and all the electives were full except fashion design. I did not want to take it because I was not interested in it. I wanted an art class. But that did not happen so I had to take fashion design. After a few days, I found out how art is also a part of fashion design and how I could create my creativity and bring them to life. So I have been designing ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. There are always complications and struggles. They always make you even better at what you do. For me, it has been a struggle personally. Ever since a little kid I had struggle trough a lot. Most of the problems were family related issues. Not having my dad around for most of the time and even my mom working long hour shifts to give us what she could by herself. Along the way, I had suffered from depression, low self-esteem and loneliness. It took me years to try and start my brand. With leadership, readings, events and discipline I have been able to follow my dreams and making them a reality.

Please tell us about your business.
I design evening gowns for women. Gowns are sewn with couture techniques and what sets my brand apart is the creativity I put in them. Every single collection is put together with inspirations through my life experiences. Past lessons learned and struggle that I have overcome. They all tell a story such as Catharsis and Beautiful Betrayal. Crystals, culture, the living and non-living organisms of this world and nature all play an important part in creating each piece of art. I am most proud of the principles I have built my company on.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not change a thing if I had to start over. Everything happened for a reason and if I did not start the company earlier was because I was not ready. Everything has fallen in place just as it should. I had to go through some challenges first to be where I am now. I had to grow mentally with knowledge and learn to love myself first.
