Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Fisher.
Josh , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got into plumbing at a really young age. My dad was a plumber, and as soon as I was big enough to be on a job site, I was there with him. I grew up around the trade, learned by watching, and eventually by doing. That early exposure gave me a strong respect for the work and for how important it is to do things the right way.
As I spent more years in the field, I saw how differently plumbers could operate. A lot of homeowners were left confused or pressured, and that never sat right with me. I took pride in slowing things down, explaining the work, and focusing on long-term solutions instead of quick fixes.
Starting my own company was a big step and came with plenty of challenges. I had to learn the business side while still working in the field, and there were a lot of long days early on. But I stayed consistent, focused on quality, and built everything through word of mouth and trust.
Today, I run a local plumbing business serving Northern Colorado. I’m proud of how far it’s come, but I’m even more focused on continuing to grow it the right way—without losing the values I learned early on working alongside my dad.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Like most small businesses, there were a lot of challenges early on. Being skilled at the trade didn’t automatically mean I knew how to run a business, so I had to learn everything on the fly — from pricing and scheduling to marketing and customer communication.
There were also long stretches of wearing every hat. I was the plumber, the office, the scheduler, and the problem solver all at once. Cash flow could be stressful at times, and there were plenty of late nights trying to figure out the next step.
One of the biggest lessons was learning not to cut corners or rush growth just to get ahead. Staying patient, doing quality work, and building trust slowly wasn’t always the easiest path, but it’s what ultimately worked. The struggles shaped how I operate today and reinforced why I started the business in the first place.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Yetty Mountain Plumbing?
run a locally owned plumbing company serving Northern Colorado, focused on residential and light commercial work. We handle everything from everyday service and repairs to water heaters, tankless systems, boilers, and more technical plumbing jobs. What we’re known for is taking the time to do things right and making sure customers actually understand what’s going on with their system.
What really sets us apart is our approach. We don’t rush jobs or push unnecessary work. I believe homeowners deserve honest answers, clear explanations, and solutions that are built to last. A lot of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers, which means everything we’ve built has come from trust and word of mouth.
Beyond the work itself, I’m very passionate about bringing attention back to the trades, especially for younger people. I got my start early, working alongside my dad, and I’ve seen firsthand how valuable learning a trade can be. There’s a real shortage of skilled tradespeople, and I think it’s important to show the next generation that this is a solid, rewarding path.
One of the things I’m most proud of brand-wise is that we’ve built our reputation the right way—without cutting corners and without trying to grow too fast. Looking ahead, I’d like to start offering youth training opportunities and summer programs that introduce young people to the trade, hands-on, and show them what a career in plumbing and skilled trades can look like.
I want readers to know that this business is about more than just plumbing. It’s about craftsmanship, honesty, community, and building something that lasts—both in the work we do and in the people we help train along the way.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
A lot of people deserve credit for where I’m at today. First and foremost is my dad. He introduced me to the trade at a young age and showed me what it means to take pride in your work. Learning alongside him taught me the value of doing things the right way and standing behind what you install.
I’ve also learned a lot from other tradespeople and mentors I’ve worked with over the years. Watching how different people approached their work—both what to do and what not to do—played a big role in shaping how I run my business today.
My clients deserve a huge amount of credit as well. Early on especially, it meant a lot when people took a chance on a small, local business and trusted me with their homes. Many of those early customers became repeat clients and referrals, and that word-of-mouth support is the reason the business has been able to grow.
Lastly, support from family and close friends has been huge. Starting and running a business can be stressful and time-consuming, and having people in your corner who believe in you makes a big difference. None of this happens alone, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s supported the journey along the way.
