Meet Judd Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judd Brooks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Judd. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born in Florida Oct 9, 1991. Moved to Kentucky where I spent most of my life. The majority of it revolved around music being band class, center snare, or just recording/playing in certain indie/metal bands I was in. I moved to Denver about 3 1/2 years and just started releasing my beats under the pseudonym _chefsoul. I was a chef at the time and sampling a lot of soul records so it made sense.

So yeah this is basically my second year dropping music as _chef and the response has been more than I could’ve imagined. The scene out here, beatmakers/rappers alike, all coming together for the cause. It’s a good thing.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been a few hiccups on the business side of things just because of miscommunication but I’m over that and all about positivity. There’s always going to be people to want to use you so you gotta really figure out who there for you as a human not to use you. Overall though the Denver scene has embraced me and I couldn’t be happier. Shoutout Swahv for the plug.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I don’t know if I’d call myself a company. More of a freelance artist. My main goal in 2020 is to be on as many projects as I can as well as dropping my own beat tapes/remixes. I’ve got merch ideas but I work 40hrs a week at a real job so finding time to manage myself, my brand, my art, and my work is 24-hour stressful ass job.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
At first, there was a lot of complaint about the city not coming together for one another but lately, I see a lot of unity. People supporting people. People following through on promises. People being decent human beings. As long as the energy stays this positive the sky’s the limit.
