Meet Julie Gill of Broche Ballet in Cap Hill & Englewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Gill.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The doors of the Broche Ballet studio have been open for just over two years since May 2017. I started ballet late myself, at the age of 17, and was immediately obsessed with it. I worked with a private coach on and off over the eight years I lived in New York City, and after she fell ill, I began my apprenticeship to learn how to teach by working with her private clients.

After moving to Denver, I opened Broche Ballet to provide a place for other aspiring adult ballerinas to learn ballet in a small, friendly, yet serious environment. Now, today, we have helped hundreds of adults pursue their dreams of learning ballet.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Adult dancers require tender love and care to reach their goals and pursue their dreams. The whole world their whole life has told them they can’t be dancers and they certainly can’t be ballerinas. They’re too old, too heavy, not flexible, have 2 left feet, etc. And so every step of the way, every little thing is a sign that they should quit, or not even try in the first place. We work to find a balance of pushing dancers to their maximum potential while understanding that ballet is really challenging and requires an emotional journey as well. We’ve learned how to really support our dancers through every challenge along the way towards their dreams.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Broche Ballet – what should we know?
We provide real ballet training, just for grownups. We specialize in the needs of the adult body, mind, and (logistically) schedule. Our adults love our friendly, supportive environment that still helps them actually achieve their goals of learning classical ballet technique and even dancing en pointe.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our kindness and compassion towards our dancers help us find our success. Our attention to each dancer through our small classes helps them feel supported and guided along the difficult journey that is learning classical ballet. It is a long and hard road, but we are there for each dancer along every step of the way.
