Meet Karina Dach of Anxiety & OCD Counseling Clinic in Stapleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Dach.

Karina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I trained in Florida as a mental health clinician specializing in the treatment of anxiety conditions and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Four years ago, I moved my practice from Florida to Denver and couldn’t be happier. The network out in Denver feels like a family to me. We share experiences, ideas, challenges and offer each other a level of support that’s hard to find. Making the decision to practice as a sole clinician was not an easy one because historically, I have enjoyed working in a team setting. However, having a private practice in Denver with the support of our strong collegial network has never left me feeling alone. Being able to service this specific population, those struggling with anxiety conditions and OCD, and offer long-lasting relief, is fulfilling and tremendously meaningful. On a personal note, two weeks ago, my husband and I welcomed our first son, Bozley, into this world. Embarking on this journey as a new mom has opened my eyes to challenges that I believe will make me an even stronger therapist.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I made the decision to only provide virtual sessions since Covid-19 shook the world. Although this choice was difficult to make, it felt like the safest approach in order to protect the health and wellness of my clients and myself. Working remotely has had it’s challenges. There is something that gets lost when you aren’t able to share physical space with someone you are connecting with. Additionally, practicing exposure and response prevention, the gold standard treatment model for OCD and anxiety conditions requires a new level of creativity when implemented virtually. My clients have done really well considering the circumstances and change, but that’s not to say it doesn’t come with its obstacles.

Please tell us about Anxiety & OCD Counseling Clinic.
The Anxiety & OCD Counseling Clinic offers evidence-based treatment for anxiety, OCD and related conditions. The clinic specializes in the treatment of anxiety and OCD and uses a cognitive-behavioral approach known as Exposure and Response Prevention to address obsessive-compulsive symptoms as well as anxious and avoidant behaviors. The NIMH estimates 40 million American adults are diagnosed with some kind of anxiety disorder each year. One of the biggest obstacles these adults face is finding an effective treatment and achieving symptom relief since they don’t experience results with traditional talk therapy.

By using evidence-based treatment, the Anxiety and OCD Counseling Clinic finds greater success in the therapeutic process. My main goal is to provide the highest level of therapeutic care for any challenging life event. I do this by blending creativity with empirically supported scientific techniques. I view compassion, respect, and humor as the core triad of an effective therapeutic experience. This individually tailored approach sets me apart from others and allows me to promote creativity and flexibility while considering individual needs and responses. “one size does not fit all.”

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Creativity, patience, and being able to see things from an “outside the box” perspective are all qualities that I feel have been important to my success.
