Today we’d like to introduce you to Katerina Stameris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katerina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I guess you could say Hippie Unbaked unofficially began in my apartment kitchen in Boston, Massachusetts in 2016. It was a way for me to indulge my sweet tooth while not only avoiding a sugar crash but feeling more energized after eating dessert- what a concept! I’ve been testing out raw vegan dessert recipes for years, but it was an increase in popularity through social media that encouraged me to coin a catchy name and share this passion so that my community can reap and (and taste) the health rewards too.
Has it been a smooth road?
We are in the early phases with a growing customer base each week. I’m still working my day job in sales full-time in Downtown Denver, so that has its challenges in and of itself. Working all day Monday through Friday and then coming home to whip up some vegan goodies at night and on weekends definitely keeps me young. Not to mention, I’m planning a wedding (May 2021) and undergoing my 300hr advanced yoga teacher training from April to October this year. I’ve always been one to operate best juggling a few things in the air at once. I simply wouldn’t have it any other way. There are not enough hours in the day -said every entrepreneur ever.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hippie Unbaked story. Tell us more about the business.
Hippie Unbaked is a raw vegan snack project on a mission to fuel the Denver community with healthy and delicious gluten-free treats. We specialize in nut and date-based snacks, desserts, and bread. I believe that dates are truly an underutilized fruit; they’re nature’s caramel. Our most popular items have to be the Counter-Culture Cheesecake bites, Zenergy Date Balls, and Zucchini Olive and Garlic loaf.
The niche for raw vegan food is unique to particular communities, and it is rich here in Denver and Boulder. There doesn’t seem to be anyone else doing what we do, quite yet anyway. We stay true to what we do, offer a mini-menu, and honor our limited ingredients to the highest regard.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry growing. To be honest, I’ve put very little energy or resources into marketing thus far and I’m lucky to be discovered on an increasingly regular basis. It’s apparent that the want and need for healthy homemade treats is out there! With many studies proclaiming the health and environmental benefits linked to a plant-based diet, I see more and more people seeking out sustainable food options.
End goal, my vision is to open a brick and mortar cafe and yoga studio in Denver to nourish the body, mind, and spirit. *swoon*
