Meet Kim Smith of Heartland Payment Systems in North Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I worked in upper management in the corporate world for 25 years. Working in a high level position for any corporation and getting ahead is something that is just not given to you. It is something you must work for! Which I did for a very long time. I was a single mom juggling the expectations of corporate and the guilt of being a Mom that does not have much time to give her only child. I decided to leave the corporate world and take on something that would allow me the flexibility to spend more time with my son as he moved into High School. Payment Processing gave me just what I asked for. I was able to make my schedule and attend every single sporting event and school function he had. It was/is the perfect work, life balance for me. I no longer have the guilt of a working mom and I finally feel very successful as a mom. Today my son is a junior at the University of Wyoming, carrying a 3.9% GPA in Chemical Engineering. I truly encourage anyone out there that struggles with the guilt of being able to be the Mom you want to be because of spending to much time at the office, to follow your dreams and become that entrepreneur that you have wanted to be. Things and Life have a fantastic way of working out the way you want them to.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is never a perfect roadmap to becoming the business person you desire to be. Obstacles and challenges seem to be around every corner. However, it is all that you make of it. Every obstacle you can overcome makes you that much stronger, not only that, every challenge you face makes you become a better business person and the experience of overcoming the things that can catapult you to the next level.

Heartland Payment Systems – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Heartland Business Solutions offers business owners solutions to their day to day business needs. I work on the Payment processing side of the business. I can provide Point of Sale solutions, desktop processing terminals and online gateways to any business without limits. I can allow business owners the time to grow their business instead of running it. We also offer Payroll, lending, analytics and an entire suite of business products. My customers would tell me it is my customer interaction and 24/7 attentiveness to my customers that sets me apart from the others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I plan to grow my business and continue to take care of my prized possessions, which are my customers.
