Meet Kristi Pohly, Owner and Master Designer, Fleur Decor in Downtown

Today we would like to introduce you to Kristi Pohly, Owner and Master Designer, Fleur Decor.

Fleur Décor bloomed as a business over 18 years ago from the creative mind of Owner and Master Designer, Kristi Pohly. With a focus in designing bouquets and floral arrangements for weddings and corporate events, Kristi has a unique eye for bringing color and texture together to form the most intense and intricate flower designs. With a genetic background from her mother in art and experience in landscape design, Kristi has developed a natural instinct for bringing the varied aspects of nature together to form beautiful bouquets. Fleur Décor is also a “green” company, with all of the glassware being recycled, trimmings and floral scraps composted, and flowers are bought from local growers whenever possible.

At Fleur Décor, floral design is more than a craft–it is an art. The art of bringing together texture, color and shape to portray a specific mood. Kristi’s floral designs also emulate the personalities of the floral clients that Kristi works with.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a boutique floral design business is so rewarding because I am constantly able to use my designs as a creative outlet, yet it also comes with some challenges. As a one-woman band, I take on all of the responsibilities of owning a business. My designs are very unique to me so it is difficult to try to find others to help with the design process. The flip side is that I am able to instantaneously see my work come to life by personalizing each event to the client through my floral designs.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fleur Decor – what should we know?
Fleur Decor is a boutique floral design studio specializing in designing florals for weddings and special events. As a designer, I am known for my use of texture and unique flowers in my designs. I love to use locally-grown flowers from my garden and from local growers in my designs.

Fleur Décor is also passionate about giving back. Out of a love for community, I created the “Make Someone’s Monday” campaign – a program that repurposes new bouquets out of leftover event flowers. Via social media outlets, stories are submitted (by the general public) of deserving people in the Denver metro area to receive a complimentary, delivered bouquet of flowers. When time allows on Mondays, Fleur Decor makes people smile with a fresh floral bouquet and a card that reads why they were nominated and who nominated them.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My friends and family have always been my biggest supporters as they have always believed that I have what it takes to run a business and be successful at it.

All of my past clients are the biggest advocates for my design work. Because of them, I have never really paid to advertise since almost all of my future business comes from the graciousness of past clients referring me to others.

It may seem silly, but the past ten years my trustworthy golden retriever, Kaila, has been a wonderful support to me as she is a calming soul during the hectic wedding months. She is quite the therapy dog to me and also goes with me to the flower warehouse to be a therapy dog for all that work there. She brings a smile to everyone’s face and is the best form of therapy during the floral design process.
