Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Mijares.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Turnt Up TV about six years ago looking to give Colorado Artist a place to showcase their music and Talents. This quickly took off and gained notice from iHeartRadio. I have always been an entrepreneur. I have successfully launched a clothing line called Pruvn Clothing. We were featured on National Television at UFC Fights with different Fighters wearing our clothing. I also was the youngest Head High School Wrestling Coach in Colorado. I have a huge passion for coaching and giving back to my community. I also was the Head Wrestling Coach for one of the largest youth wrestling clubs in Colorado, Predator Wrestling. I have been able to make a name for myself through a lot of different avenues. I plan on to keep expanding my reach with a new podcast and a new clothing line I plan on launching. I love Colorado and the talent it has and will continue to help push the culture to new heights. I am a single Dad so I do this also to try to put myself and my daughter in a better position in life
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been wins for myself and my team. I had to learn how to really master social media in order to make the name pop. We ran into low listener numbers at first and even got dropped from iHeart which felt like it could be the end for the podcast. I also had to make choice to give up coaching to move to Denver to per sue the dream. Another big hurdle is the time I spend away from my family in order to be at show and interviews for my show.
Please tell us about Turnt Up TV.
Turnt Up TV is Colorado’s #1 Show for Sports Music and Entertainment. We specialize in Colorado Hip Hop but we really pride ourselves on highlighting all talents in CO. We have one of the top DJ’S in the state on the team. DJ Cos. He is the go-to for a lot of rappers who have a show and need a DJ to rock the crowd. The thing I am most proud of is the name TUTV has made in the city of Denver. We really are the go-to place when an artist has a new song they want to get out or for an interview. We believe in the people just like they believe in us.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a kid was falling in love with Hip Hop. My mom was cleaning the house early one morning and woke me up by having Bone Thugs and Harmony “Crossroads” on MTV. I’ll never forget the feeling that video and song gave me. I knew I wanted to be in the Hip Hop World one day somehow.
