Meet Landi Collins of Landi’s Doggy Digs in Yuma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Landi Collins.

Landi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Iowa and graduated high school there. I then attended South Dakota State University to become a pharmacist. I am now a Pharmacy Manager in Yuma, CO. Growing up, my mom’s family was very into DIY projects and crafting so I grew up learning to sew, crochet and knit. I wasn’t that interested in sewing. My craft of choice was usually knitting. After meeting my husband, finishing school and moving into a place of our own we started to accumulate dogs. We currently have 3 of our own and foster two seniors through our local groomer/doggy daycare Wags & Whiskers. After seeing some cute dog accessories on Pinterest, my mom and I got supplies and made a bunch for our own dogs on a weekend visit. That would have been winter 2019. After everything got shut down during the pandemic sewing dog bandanas and bows turned into my hobby and was relaxing for me but it didn’t take long before I had way too many for just my own dogs but I didn’t want to quit making them so I decided to sell some

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes and no. I have a full-time job so there’s no pressure for selling a certain amount but that also limits the amount of time I can spend on the business and teaching myself about social media and marketing or finishing bows and bandanas. I have a very supportive family and so my mom has helped a ton in figuring out packaging, helping with products, FaceTiming me to help fix sewing machine issues, setting up my craft room and so much more.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Landi’s Doggy Digs story. Tell us more about the business.
I sew dog accessories such as bandanas and bows. I also sew bandanas for my local groomer here in Yuma.

The bandanas I do are two-toned instead of a single solid print. The main body of the bandana and neckpiece are different patterns so I’m able to get creative with coordinating those patterns and colors.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
If COVID-19 hadn’t shut a lot of things down, I probably would not have spent as much time making bandanas and bows for my dogs which I found to be a very relaxing hobby during these stressful times but eventually, I had made way too many for just my own dogs so I decided to start selling them.

Pricing:

  • Bandanas range $9-12
  • Bows & Bowties range $4-6
