Meet Larry Davis of Drunk Wear By LD in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Davis.

Larry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After growing up in an alcoholic home the word DRUNK became a daily word/term in our household. After me picking up the bottle and making many blunders on my own throughout the years, DRUNK was still a word I heard often, if not every day. After my father passed from liver failure, the word was still there and I started noticing that the word carried a heavy dark cloud over it. I sought after to change the meaning behind the word to have a positive light. As most words in the dictionary, they have one or more meaning to them, but the secondary or third meaning often gets looked over. Long behold, I did not have to change the meaning behind the word DRUNK. When I looked it up, the word DRUNK had two meanings. The 2nd meaning that the world looks over or doesn’t mention much. Is “Overcome or dominated by a strong feeling or emotion”.

Drunk with Joy; Drunk with Power. I got a little creative, put a positive spin on things, also put an acronym to the word seeking to put a positive message behind it while keeping its meaning. D.R.U.N.K “Do. Right. U. Never. Know” I am DRUNK on GOD, DRUNK with JOY, DRUNK with POWER, DRUNK with LOVE, DRUNK on FAMILY & FRIENDS, just DRUNK on LIFE. Till this day, I still struggle with Alcohol, like many others do. I am moving forward in getting the message out to the world one body at a time creating a DRUNK WEAR by LD line of clothing. I am not perfect and will continue to fight, knowing I have a choice to choose my path every day. Living by the Acronym Do Right U Never Know reminds me and helps me choose the right path when I have come to that split in the road – my decisions must be more thought out. In my life, this decision comes minute by minute, day by day.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road for me. I struggled to try to find someone to help me bring my vision to life exactly how I saw it in my head. I had no connections in the industry and did not even know where to start. GROUND ZERO – I asked around and was told to find a printing company. I ended up making a connection with a small printing company that didn’t require the high minimums that the larger print shops mandated. On top of my lack of experience going into this. I also had the obstacle of financial backing for the big dreams I have for DRUNK WEAR.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My clothing line would be considered a “Unique Style of Street Wear for All”. Currently, I carry hoodies, graphic t-shirts, tank tops, etc…. What makes me different is the message behind my brand. I try to help motivate people to think about their actions and how DRUNK can be applied to everyone’s lives. From the dictionary’s meaning to the many meanings the acronym holds. It also means you can be DRUNK on many things in life. DRUNK on MUSIC, DRUNK with POWER, DRUNK with LOVE, DRUNK on LIFE, DRUNK with PASSION, etc. All of the different meanings behind the brand definitely makes my brand different from any other great clothing lines out there today.

I am proud of the many accomplishments I’ve made through the journey. I am also proud that I haven’t given up through some of the obstacles I encountered earlier on. I’ve also had complete strangers approach me when I’m wearing my shirts and ask me about the shirt or tell me how much it stood out to them. I am most proud that friends and strangers have told me that my message means a lot to them. Just one of many reasons why I keep going. Spreading my message, through clothes, one person at a time.

What were you like growing up?
I was outgoing, growing up, funny and into just about everything. Music, Video Games, Football, Basketball, Writing poems, and always eager to try new things.
