Meet Laura Clear Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Clear Mountain.

Laura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved photography. In high school, photography was the only class I truly participated in. I would spend hours in the darkroom tinkering and experimenting. Photography was a way for me to express myself and slow down my angsty teenage brain long enough to create something. I went to college and studied Poetry. It wasn’t until I met my husband that I picked up my camera again. He inspired me to start my own business and coming from a family of resourceful entrepreneurs, I was on my way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Someone said, “comparison is the thief of joy” — I think it’s true. Being a creative, it’s easy to compare your work to others. The “business” side of owning a small business. Creatives don’t often make great business folk. I could be wrong, but I just want to create!!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in Colorado weddings and elopements. As a new Mom, I’ve been shooting more maternity and families. I love it all! My style is fun, feel-good and authentic. A leveraged balance of both documentary/reportage and fine art styles. I have extensive experience and technical knowledge having shot in a variety of diverse situations and environments. Human psychology fascinates me and helps me to be a more present, empathetic photographer. I think a lot of the wedding industry is lame and I encourage you to think for yourself when planning your wedding. Don’t do it for anyone else but yourself!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Hanging out with my family around the campfire “up-north.” The color and smell of Michigan maple trees in the Fall.
