Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Brettschneider and Jake Olson.
Lauren and Jake, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We created Rebel Farm on October 1 2014! We grew slowly, eventually flourishing by bringing on many more clients and continued to grow from there throughout the years. Pre-COVID we were in a comfortable state but couldn’t really grow the business much more ourselves. While COVID hit us pretty hard we pivoted our business quickly but eventually made the decision to sell both the business and the property due to not having the means to grow the business any further. Our ultimate hope is for someone to carry on this great business we’ve built over the past 6 years and hopefully we’d get to potentially stay involved. If we had to sell the property alone, we would but we are hoping it can continue to grow further for the community. We’ve really laid the foundation here and have done all of the hard work. We remain very positive about a sale, as we see the huge potential it would bring to the community!
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve had lots of struggles but there has also been lots of reward. COVID has definitely been one of the biggest struggles but we know everyone would probably agree with that in any small business!
Rebel Farm – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are most proud that we didn’t just build a company, we built a brand. We are known for our Hydroponic Greens and herbs, particularly our Arugula. Chefs love it, along with our Red Veined Sorrel and PG/Rebel Mix. The public seems to really like our Gem and Rouxai Lettuces. I think how we operate sets us apart. We are very accommodating to our chefs. They are very busy people and we try to bend over backwards for them. We’ve built very close relationships here.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the connections, friends and neighbors we’ve made. We are not particularly thrilled about how crazy busy and crowded this city has gotten over the years but that’s pretty normal of any big city. We wish the city would keep more of what makes it beautiful and unique, especially things like the architecture here.
